We were there 2 weeks ago.
It was okay. Our room was clean enough, very old looking and a bit worn, but no obvious grime or vermin. Housekeeping was spotty, we had to call twice for clean towels, whoever cleaned the room took the old ones but forgot new ones. They did fix the problem pretty quickly. The beds weren't the most comfy- I've camped and had softer dirt to sleep on, but for a night it won't kill anyone. Laundry room (we needed to do laundry) was fine, although no fabric softener in the vending machine, bring your own if you need to do wash.
Grounds were clean, pool was decent, and you really can't beat the location. We caught the tail end of the character breakfast, kids seemed to like it, and we spotted a roving Goofy. Food was kind of limited, the cafe in the lobby is spendy and doesn't have many options, and Baskerville's is so-so, we ate breakfast there, weren't wowed, but it was okay.
We didn't rent a car and between their park shuttle and the Downtown Disney buses were able to get along just fine. Nice and close to Crossroads too for some non-park dining options, we headed over there to get some Buffalo Wild Wings and Uno's pizza.
We skipped trying to catch the shuttle back at night- got lazy and took the DD bus from the Contemporary and then walked back to the hotel. I'm not sure if that qualifies as lazy since we walked, though!
For a quick trip I'd probably stay there again- they push the upgrade to the Tower Rooms which are the renovated ones and are supposedly a lot nicer, I would definitely go Tower next time if we went for a longer stay. The location was just too good to pass up, if onsite isn't an option.
