ok after reading goldees pj im wondering what a grooms cake is.. actually i've often wondered whatit is, but after reading hers, im really wondering what one is.. why isnt there a brides cake.. is taht really stupid that i just said that?? just curious.. and note to self, have a dinner at ohannas, so there is no cake delivery fee lol

Basically, its just a second cake that usually represents a groom's interest, hobbies, that kind of thing. I'm a hockey player, so mine will likely be a sheet cake cut into the shape of a hockey rink and decorated with the lines, goals, and some players. Some of my friends have had cakes that looked like Bud Light Cans, cars, that kind of thing. Basically, its a way to let the groom be able to put his touch on things that tend to be more about the bride's wishes.

The bride's cake, per se, is the big wedding cake. It's her party, so she gets the most input into the big one.

oh.. ok that makes sense then.. although i would never dream of planning any wedding without df's every intrest and input in mind. but thats just me.. we are also pretty similar so yeah.. but i kinda like he idea of a grroms cake.. and when is this served?? at a rehearsal dinner?

It's more of a Southern North American tradition. If you've ever seen Steel Magnolias, there was an armadillo as a groom's cake. An armadillo was actually a common design. And it was usual red velvet.

If you look it up on Google and Yahoo!, you can find the history of the tradition.

Around here (maryland) a Grooms cake is usually Chocolate while the wedding cake is all white and fancy! I am surprising my DF with one since "Fat Boys Love Cake" LOL
