I am thinking of adding a Groom's Cake to my dessert party. If you had a groom's cake - how big was it? How many did it feed? How much was it? Pix would be great!

this was mine it was a quarter sheet cake redvelvet, w/cream cheese frosting
i had mine made at publix grocery store just outside diney main gate, it was $36.00 we had 22 people and it fed all of them pretty good size piece, no leftovers though!
i have the number to that publix if your interested fr the wedding pavillion it took 10minutes to drive there!

I have ZERO info for you other than that this is the groom's cake we would have had if there'd been any room in the budget....:rotfl:

I was also interested in doing a groom's cake at the Wishes! dessert party we are doing the night before our VR at the Grand Floridian. I was under the impression that I am limited to the GF dessert party menu and that I can't add a cake or buy one somewhere else to serve there. Does anyone know one way or another?

We have no groom, so no groom's cake.:rolleyes1 But our wedding date is also my brother and father's birthday, and my dad is allergic to chocolate (the saddest fate ever), so we ordered a small b-day cake for them through Disney. It was $35 (I think) for a small, vanilla with white frosting cake.

OMG! Poor man! Because as everyone knows, "A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands" :lovestruc

I think this is one of those things where it depends on your planner - my planner was happy to add a cake to my Wishes Dessert Party - she told me to just decide what I want - if I were you Cam I would push a little bit!

Thanks so much, Lisa! It's nice to know that it's not absolutely impossible!

I was thinking of a grooms cake also but for our Rehersal Dinner. I would much rather have it at our Desert Party. I'll have to find out about bringing it into Epcot. I thought we could not bring in anything from the outside but I will definately ask about that.

I was told that the cake couldnt be at the dessert party because of the weather. Alot of cakes in the heat would melt. But she also said it depended on the month because jan or fed are ok. My wedding is in august and it would NOT be good. We are having a Ny mets cake at our rehearsal dinner at Ohana's. My planner said when i booked to let them know we were having a sheet cake. Plus she already told me the charge for delivery is $75 plus she needs to give the bakery my idea and get a quote on the cake itself.

Hey there can you give me that number. I might do that because my planner said $75 delivery charge from the GF bakery. She hasnt even given me a qute on the cake. I thought that was crazy. I know publix makes great cakes.

My DF wants a Giants Football cake. Since the Giants won the Superbowl he wants to decorate the ADH with Giants stuff (I don't think so) - but I thought a cake would be a good idea. Maybe I'll have it for the reception. My DF's dad lives in Orlando so we could just pick one up at the supermaket by his house. We also have a few Mets seasons tickets so I told him what if the Mets win the World Series, then we will have to have some Mets stuff.

Thats funny. yeah we are originally from NJ so me and my DF are huge Mets fans. (We live in tampa now. we are going to the mets vs braves game at wide world of sports on the 27th). And the mets are what brought us together. We are even having a mets cake topper at the reception. Its a bride and groom with mets colors and the groom has a mets hat on. its to cute.
We are also huge football fans but we dont agree on our teams and neither of them are NY teams.. lol.. he is the redskins and i'm the raiders... both since birth on that...

good luck...

ps if you need to get rid of any mets tickets in june let me know i would like to catch a game in shea one last time when i'm up there

It was $292 total. We had this at the Yachtsman & were not charged a delivery fee either. GF bakery made it.

hey the publix i used is right next door to gaylord palms hotel, just outside the maingate of disney, the phone # 407-397-1171 (mary in bakery is great )

heres what i learned about cakes fr the outside you CAN bring them to restaurants:yay: , BUT they will not store them in a refridgerator or anywhere in their kitchen :headache: (osha rules) but like ohana had a counter near there dessert area i placed it on till it was time, then ohana gave me a small server table to place it on, the plates and a knife to cut it with.

so best advice no ice cream cake or whipped frosting because those have to be stored in coolers
:cake:

Thanks for the info. I have to admit the Disney groom's cakes are so unique and wonderful (I saw one of the golf course hole where there is a Mickey sandtrap) but I just can't imagine paying that much for a cake in addition to the wedding cake the next day. I may have to consider another option. I'm not even sure I could bring myself to CUT some of those Disney cakes.

Bobbie -- Thanks for posting the publix info -- I may go that way, if we are allowed to have it at our dessert party at GF in addition to their DP menu. :thumbsup2

Hi, folks. You really need to run the topic of having non-Disney cakes served at a Disney function by the FTW organization. There was a very knowledgeable CM who used to post on this board. Here is a link to one of the threads where this topic was discussed: click here. Please look for IntheKnow's posts.

Again, please run this topic by the FTW organization. Disney has put rules in place for a reason, and if any rules still apply to this category, it would be best to find out what they are and then to follow them.

By the way, if anyone finds out for certain whether or not Disney is allowing non-Disney cakes to be served at a Disney function, please share that information. Disney used to allow this many years ago (and they used to charge a per slice cutting fee -- I think that's what they called it). They eventually put an end to this. If they have relaxed the rules lately, it would be good information to have. Thanks in advance.

Keenercam, open up that dialog with your FTW Event Manager. You will be amazed at what can be done.

For example, mini-cakes were served at an outdoor party that I held at the GF's marina two summers ago. They were actually a surprise dessert that my Event Manager put together with the Pastry Chef's help. They were added to the menu at the last minute and I didn't know about them ahead of time or what they would cost me. (Please note -- this was perfectly okay with me and my Event Manager knew this -- it was a "surprise me" kinda item.) The mini-cakes were adorable. Here are a few photos of them:

So, open up that dialog with your FTW Event Manager and see what can be done. But have your pocketbook ready. ~Magic~ is hard work and costs accordingly. ;)
