is there any places/ buses etc that would take us from the cabin to a grocery store on our way in to buy groceries? I have in my travel package a shuttle to and from airport by Meers (sp?) but they do not offer a grocery stop.....i am not sure if i should have a different company ( happy limo or someone) instead of the meers included in my package, or how i would get groceries to my cabin-
one of the great things about us staying in a cabin is that we can save $$ cooking our own food......but i have to get there somehow to buy it:confused:

any thoughts?

I think I saw a grocery store in the crossroads shopping center

The crossroads is across the street from DTD. take the bus from FW to DTD and walk across the street.

I also just received an advertisement flier in the mail for Cici's pizza in the crossroads center that I will have to check out .

All you can eat pizza buffet for 3.99 or 4.99

Sorry, but I don't have an answer aout a shuttle/taxi service but wanted you to know that the Crossroads is a little more than "across the stret" from DD.

The Crossroads is at the end of Hotel Plaza Blvd where it meets FL535. From the DD bus stop it is probably at least a 1/2 mile walk.

Yes, it would be quite a hike to the Goodings and back. We checked out the Goodings store quite thoroughly and their prices were practically identical to the prices at the Meadow's trading post. I would either take a towncar service with a grocery stop, plan on shopping at the Meadow's, use one of the grocery delivery services, or see about renting a car for one day and you could visit the Super Walmart for the best prices.

You'll love the cabins! Have a great trip!!

Tina,
I am by no means an expert. I just got back from FW a couple of weeks ago, and knowing what I know now, I would have done things a bit differently. Everybody's situation is unique, so I'll just throw out there what we did, and it may spark an idea or two. I did get a shuttle service that included a grocery stop, but since our flight got in around midnight, our driver said everything was closed (turns out Goodings is open 24 hours, but oh well.) I had brought down one big suitcase of dried goods (granola bars, dried fruit, hot chocolate mix, peanut butter and jelly, etc.) I did not rent a car for the trip. I found going to the Meadows Trading Post to work okay. Certainly the prices are higher, but it was the only option left to me, and I didn't think they were horrendous. Maybe because I live in Alaska and I'm used to higher grocery prices! :) But I found that the items most used were the ones I brought...granola bars in the parks, etc. Bread at the Meadow's was $2.39, and that made enough sandwiches for everyone for the day. Eggs were, I think, $1.39 or so a dozen. It was kind of quaint...like shopping in the old time stores. Anyway, that's what I ended up doing.

Here's my 2 cents...
Switch from Mears Shuttle to a town car service. I recommend Tiffany Town Car. Aside from it being cheaper (in most cases)...it's $80 round trip and there is a $5 coupon on their website...it is direct right to your resort. No waiting for all of the other people on the shuttle to be dropped off, as on Mears.

Also, Tiffany will do a grocery stop for you. We stayed in the cabins in June 2002 without a rental car. Tiffany stopped at Publix for us (and we were longer than 30 min, too. Our driver told us not to rush!) We bought a styrofoam cooler and ice to pack the cold stuff in just in case we got delayed. I made sure I made a list ahead of time and planned out meals. I also brought some things from home in a suitcase.

One night at FW, we ordered a pizza from Trails End and brought it back to the cabin. That worked out really well too. We mostly only at breakfast in the cabin, and I think dinner twice.

Seriously, check out Tiffany Town Car instead of Mears...you'll be happy you did!

:p

I forgot to add that I had friends who had Mears in their package last fall. When I told them about Tiffany Town Car, and how much they'd save (plus the grocery stop), they called WDTC and removed Mears from their package. Then they just booked Tiffany on their own on-line.

marcy-

thank you for your reply.....i was wondering about how i would get around that, in the package we would be purchasing had the mears included...but that is agreat idea to jsut cancel that from the package and resserve tiffany towncar on my own.

thanks for the tips! EVERYONE :)
