Grocery delivery service or no?

We are checking into BWV on July 20th for a 10-night trip. We drive down from NYC. Usually we buy cereal and other non-perishable items at Wal-Mart (including a replenishment of our case of water to bring into the parks...we also drink a lot of water on the drive down) before we arrive so we can have breakfast in the villa, and then I just buy milk at the Screen Door on the Boardwalk. This time, we are driving from Palm Coast that morning, from an overnight stay there. It's only an hour and a half from WDW. However, we are also going to Epcot to eat lunch around the world showcase, and I made some FP+ selections there in the late afternoon before our Garden Grill dinner ADR.

I'd like to buy other items which are perishable, like fresh fruit and Greek yogurt. I have gotten used to eating those for breakfast a lot of mornings and would like to have them on hand in the villa as well. I'm not sure if I could even buy Greek yogurt at the Screen Door store, and I have never seen fresh fruit there.

The issue is how to go about buying the perishable items, how to save time, but also not spend an arm and a leg. Is there a grocery delivery service you would recommend that's not completely overpriced? How does this service work? Do we have to be inside the villa to accept the delivery, or would the hotel hold the items in a fridge? I'm concerned with foods spoiling of course.

If we make good time and decide to go to Wal-mart or Publix on the way into WDW, would the hotel hold dairy products in a fridge, or no? My guess would be no but I thought I'd ask so we could come up with a good plan. What would you do if you were me?

The resort can hold your refrigerated items, and I would definitely buy the items myself and let the resort refrigerate, freeze the items that need it. It may leaving the West Coast earlier than you would prefer, but is like buying my own things. However, I have also been happy with We Go Shop. I was in the room when she delivered, I do not know if you gave to be.

We are already planning to leave the hotel in Palm Coast right after breakfast. The breakfast at the hotel starts at 7:30 so we will go eat at that time, and then hit the road. Maybe it will be worth it to just go to Publix since the resort will hold refrigerated items. How would we retrieve the items once we get into the villa? We won't be returning until the evening, around 8:00pm, from Epcot.

It is easy! Just call Bell Services with the information on the Bell Services ticket. Ours have always come quickly.

The current order form for groceries from the Screen Door lists three flavors of Dannon Light & Fit Yogurt, both red and green apples, grapefruit and oranges. So those should be available for you to pick up yourself. (I seem to remember the fruit being in the back left corner of the store.)

The date on the order form is 4/15/14, so it's pretty up-to-date.

I would recommend stopping on the way to BWV. You'll have a much wider selection and better prices. Walmart or Publix are not that far off your route. Just make sure when they bag your groceries, have them keep all refrigerated items together and freezer items together. When you unload all your stuff, let the bellman know which goes in the fridge and freezer.

When you call for your luggage, remind them about the stuff in the fridge/freezer, they will bring everything together.

Is there a certain time of day I have to do this? Could it be at night after we return from Epcot, say around 8:30?

How do they keep track of whose stuff is where? I'm assuming they will give me some sort of ticket that has a duplicate attached to my things, is this what they do?

We have used Garden Grocer for a previous trip and were not disappointed! Our groceries were delivered to the Concierge at BLT and were kept refrigerated until we checked in and called for them to be sent up to our villa. Fruit was fresh and I found prices to be no more expensive than vacation area grocery stores. There is a fee of $14 I think. I ordered our groceries again for our trip upcoming later this month. I remember that they even called me to let me know they had finished shopping our order and to let us know if any items were out of stock or if I would like to make substitutions! You can't go wrong and it saves a lot of time. One summer we did drive to Publix on Vineland and that wasn't too bad. Just after a long drive, DH did not want to be in the grocery store so we have ordered garden grocer since.
:flower3:

Bell services will deliver your groceries after 8:30... Not a problem. You will be OK.

Bell services tags everything with a sticker + a luggage tag thing that loops around the handle. Same thing is done with the grocery bags. They might loop the luggage tag around the handles of all the bags to keep them together. And I think they are supposed to write your last name on all the luggage tags.

Since you have a car, I would check in and then go shopping. We like to go on the second day, it only takes an couple of hours and the parks and WDW will always be there. It can be a nice break in the heat of the day and you don't have to deal with the grocery service and their fees and tip. You can do a breakfast buffet the second morning, then go shopping.

That sounds like a nice idea, but we have Epcot already planned for the first day, and DHS rope drop for the second day. I think we will just go on the way in, and check the groceries with bell services since it seems they are very efficient with this.

If you can, bag the refrigerated and frozen items separate from the other items. Take a felt marker with you, put your name on the bags and mark the ones to keep cold. I know that it may seem like overkill but better safe than sorry.

That's a great idea, I will do that! Thank you! Nothing seems like overkill to me when it comes to planning WDW trips...I love all of these tips! :)

Over the years we have only had a couple of Bell Services food storage issues, thus the hint. The one that we still laugh about was about 4 years ago Bell Services "lost" a bucket of Publix fried chicken, hot from the deli counter. :rolleyes1

They gave us a room credit of $20 but the chicken never showed up. :goodvibes

Wow, that's a big deal. I mean a $20 room credit is just fine for making a mistake like that, but you no longer had your hot meal waiting for you and that is priceless. That's a very big mistake on their part. I will be sure now to label everything!
