Gripe - Food in the Parks

CAnn, did you ever get a reply? Not that it matters, WDW will probably never have an official stance - I mean we'd all be able to say we had special dietary needs right?.

So far just the standard "Thank you for contacting us...someone will be in contact with you...." blah, blah, blah..

That was a few days ago and I think the reason that I haven't heard anything further may be due to the fact that I asked VERY detailed, specific questions regarding the food situation and they don't want to commit to their "non"-policy..

If I ever do hear back, I'll be sure to post it here..

Oh, I just thought of another question to ponder. Just how OLD do you have to be (or is if feel?) to be a senior citizen?

Thanks Debbie..I can't wait to see my son's new house..we'll be the first visitors.

I just asked my granddaughter (almost 13) how old someone has to be to be a senior citizen and she said 35. I asked my grandson (11) (we were out to eat with his great-great uncle who is 93) and he said older than Unc for sure (prob because he's so robust, and still does a lot of activities).

As for feeling like one..I have no answer, since I don't intend to have my sense's when I reach that feeling...and I'll enjoy the entire way there. AARP says 50 to get one of their cards, or married to someone over 50..so that prob means a lot of people on this board can be card carrying members.

And Lilly, I wouldn't be surprised if you are right about the locals. It just makes sense, if you come often (unless money isn't an issue) paying Disney's prices for food can add up. Thanks for the cooler report I would have expected a lot more, by what some have said, considering it's a holiday weekend.

Well this local often goes to the theme parks with the intention of eating at the restaurants. No way I'm hauling food over.

It may be true of some, but those of us with APs who live in the area, don't go that often for marathon stints at the parks. We go for a few hours to do the things we really want to do or soak up atmosphere. Part of the fun is eating out. I rarely see very many people eating food they brought in at the CS restaurants. Maybe it is timing, but it certainly hasn't been an issue for us. I occasionally see people picnicking outside in a park.

My biggest gripe about CS restaurants at WDW are the people who don't clear their trash from the tables making it hard for other people looking for a clean place to eat. Sorry, that's another thread!

I understand that...we like sit down meals ourselve. I don't like to haul food either. But then we're usually sans kids. I wonder if that makes a difference. Or someone who lives a little further away, has kids and comes often. Who knows..that's not who I see saving lots of tables, although I have been known to bring some leftovers in the park with me. I go to have a good time, and if I do buy food and can't find a table (for me it's usually because , as I stated people with kids are saving the tables, waiting for their meal to come via daddy in line, not because of take in), I make sure next time to change the time we eat, and we go off times.

If you have a problem with someone eating food in a restuarant that they didn't bring in, then say something. I'm so sick of people just rolling their eyes. If you see conduct you find inappropriate, either say something to the offending person or get over it.

After reading a lot of this thread I have a theory. If WDW allows people with food allergies or special diets to bring in food it stands to reason that they have to let anyone bring in food. Can you imagine security grilling folks at the gate? "How do we know this bread is really gluten free?" Or requiring them to bring Dr's notes? ."I'm sorry, you'll need a note from your Dr stating that you are allergic to peanuts before we can let you in with these peanut free snacks." No outside food is an un-enforceable policy.

That would be the same reasoning behind letting people sit wherever to eat. What would happen if they told someone who had brought in food because of health reasons that they had to go sit on a bench or curb or go back to their car?

I'm thinking that money has everything to do with it. WDW wants as many patrons as possible and they try not to discriminate against anyone. I'm sure the lawyers have a lot to do with changes in signage and brochures. Fear of lawsuits govern almost all labelling and signage anywhere these days.

I personally would rather see WDW go non-smoking and make smokers have to go outside the park before I would want people that pack their own meals to keep it outside the parks. Someone eating a bologna sandwich next to me isn't a health threat like someone smoking next to me or my DD is.

Hmm..you know, I think you might have hit it right on the nose. Good theory. I do find it strange the signage changed. My note to them was very specific with lots of questions..and they didn't answer any of them.

I think she did nothing but express her opinion, which I happen to agree with, and remain very polite given that she was the recipient of some very uncalled for, ignorant remarks.

I think this has been addressed earlier in this thread. If one person in a group brings in their own food while the rest of that group buys their meals, of course that person would/should dine with everyone else at the CS spot's tables.
But if the entire party brings in their own food, for any reason, yes - the entire party should be dining on a bench, or on a curb, or back in their car.

Really, just how many people compared to the thousands you see are actually doing this? I don't think it's a major problem.

If I'm not trying to find a table in a busy counter service restaurant, I don't care if every table is taken by the BYOM contingent. But if I'm trying to find a table where I can eat my just-purchased meal? It's a MAJOR problem
