Grilling Planks

Yes, I buy cedar planks to grill salmon. I bought them at our local grocery store, Wegmans. This stores carries alot of gourmet items.

That is the only way we cook salmon in our house! I just get them at our local supermarket, and I have seen them in Home Depot too. Williams Sonoma also usually has them.

:wave2: Another cedar planked salmon cooker here. I get the at Williams-Sonoma. Sometimes they go on sale at the end of the summer clearance sale.

my boyfriend's parents swear by them. we never have fish any other way. they buy theirs at williams-sonoma as well. i do have to agree the fish that is grilled on them is absolutely delicious, especially the salmon, i wanted to eat the whole plate they made!

I buy them at Williams Sonoma and also have ordered them from chefs.com. Yummy! I make a maple-soy glaze for the salmon and cook the fish on the plank on top of a bed of rosemary with sliced pears all around the fish.

We followed a tip from Bobby Flay and just purchased a few cedar shingles at Home Depot. They work like a charm! We grill our salmon on them with the potlatch seasoning from Williams Sonoma-yum!

I'm with you, PrincessDeb. I buy both the cedar planks and that fabulous Potlatch seasoning at Williams-Sonoma. Everyone keeps saying it's the best salmon they've ever had. And, another tip, try to buy the wild salmon (usually Alaskan) as opposed to the farm-raised, the flavor and texture is SO much better. Now, I'm really hungry!

sounds like yours are different than ours (never have had to buy one beyond the first). ours is solid cedar and has a hole with a metal attachment to vent/drain liquid, we use it on the bbq and in the oven. we bought ours in alaska and love it-great for fish, chicken, veggies. if you like a great salmon spice check out the alaska spice company on line-they have awsome stuff!

So these cedar planks don't burn up? Do they last a long time? I'm considering buying one - I even saw them at Costco.

You soak them first - usually for 20-30 minutes in water. This keeps them from burning up.

HOWEVER - going with my philosophy that everything is better with wine...I like to soak my planks in wine. This way the fish is basically wine-steamed while it is grilling.

Oh and definately spring for wild Alaska salmon. Farmed just doesn't compare.

now we are using roofing shingles to cook on. I guess home depot is our one place store to shop. :woohoo:

I actually found some at Publix after Hurricane Wilma last year. I bought them just in case, we ran out of charcoal and I needed to come up with inventive ways to cook over wood.
