Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

My favorite neighbohood diner serves an awesome grilled cheese sandwich. It's a slice of whole wheat, then chedder, then another slice of whole wheat in the middle, then swiss. All grilled to cheesy perfection and served with a pickle spear. I LOVE it! Order it every time!

thanks merekc :thumbsup2

So it is basically cheese slices, or Velveeta? I'm wondering if it also includes the strange cheese that I buy that is labelled medium cheddar but is sort of rubbery and melts beautifully but is not crumbly like real cheddar.
American cheese is basically very, very mild cheddar that is made to melt well. They are typically not actual slices as they poured and molded in the shape that they are in and not actually sliced off a larger block.

I love Swiss and tomato on an open-faced sandwich. My mom used to make it for me when I was little. I also eat Swiss on grilled cheese sandwiches sometimes. I'm glad someone said Pepper Jack. I bought some yesterday and was wondering if it would be any good on a grilled cheese sandwich.

Anyone else thinking grilled cheese for lunch?:rotfl:

I'm a little late, but might take the time anyway.

use some oregano, Italian seasoning or garlic on the outside of the sandwich, with the butter....makes it super special. :cutie:

Now I will have to try that. Right now I am on a kick putting it in the oven to cut out the butter. I spray a little Pam on the bread and toast, have to flip though.
However it is bland since I am not using butter. I will have to try some herbs.:thumbsup2

Any cheese is good grilled, really. We use whatever is in the drawer. DH is the only one that eats the plastic cheese. My dd's prefer something else.

Now I am hungry.....

On a related note, we often make 'baby pizza sandwiches' at our house.

The bread is 'buttered' with a garlicy spread and inside is shedded cheese, chopped pepperoni & onion, a tablespoon of pizza sauce, and some italian herbs.

Yummy.
