Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Velveeta all the way! It's so tasty and gooey. Even better when you dip it in tomato soup! Mmm.
 
Wheat bread.
American cheese. Land of Lakes sliced by the deli. Not that fake individual wrapped Kraft stuff.
Turkey bacon.
Tomato slice.
Outside of bread is spread with mayo instead of butter.

Mayo instead of butter? That sounds YUM! I never would have thought of that.

My husband makes the BEST grilled cheese (butter on both sides of the bread!). It isn't Weight Watchers friendly but who wants that with grilled cheese? (don't try fat free cheese - the texture is creepy when melted.)

Anyway - He sometimes makes me cheddar with blue cheese or gorgonzola - YUM! Feta is a good addition too.

I prefer white bread, with thinly sliced cheddar and then a second cheese. Maybe hot pepper sometimes, or American, or colby/jack, or monterey/jack.

Someone mentioned spices on the buttered/grilled sides of the bread, I never thought of that but it's a great idea!!
 
Gouda!

I never would have tried it, but my fiance is a big fan of mixing together anything we happen to have lying around - even if it sounds nasty. :laughing: In this case, grilled gouda sandwiches turned out to be a success. Macaroni and cheese w/tuna, however, not such a success.. :rolleyes1

OMG My DH LOOOOOOVES tuna in his mac-n-cheese. It makes me want to barf.

Anyway, I only like American (the indiv wrapped singles) on grilled cheese. All other cheeses on that kind of sandwich turn my stomach. Although I have never met a cheese I don't like.

Anyway, I love american cheese and sliced pickles...with butter on the outside and mayo on the in. mmm. Dip in ketchup. Heaven!
 
Try jalepeno cheddar bread (or any other good looking bakery bread). Yum!

Alton Brown did a Good Eats episode on grilled cheese, you might be able to google it. I have not tried them but they looked good. It seems like he spread Dijon mustard and cracked pepper on the inside of one option.

Fresh mozzarella with sliced tomatoes and basil on semolina bread.
Grill it with a little olive oil to make it like a Panini.

Cheddar and monterey jack on oatmeal bread, grilled with mayo instead of butter. Delish!

We mix garlic bread seasoning into the butter and stick super sharp cheddar and a bit of sliced onion inside.

Something people should stay away from. Unless you were brought up on this product and hav e childhood associations to it, you would not call it "cheese." Over the years, it has also become less "cheese" and more fillers, than what it used to be. Now it's kind of a plastic and oils. :sad2:

Yes, it doesnt go runny
but it makes a great grilled cheese
 
OK I go over board, I cook a bit of fresh spinach in the pan then I put bread with mozzarella and then the spinach then more mozzarella (sliced form the deli) then bread. I use giant all natural wheat bread. I then melt the butter with a diced piece of garlic. I do the normal thing for a grilled cheese. I then cut it into stcik like pieces and dip it in spagetti sauce. My family likes it better than the fried mozzarella sticks you get at restaurants.
 
Here are some different grilled cheeses that I like:

brie or sharp cheddar and mango chutney on whole wheat or anadama bread

montery jack or havarti with bacon and raspberry jam (sounds weird, tastes great) on french

bacon, tomato, and sharp cheddar with a smear of dijon mustard

gruyere, sauteed mushrooms, carmelized onions, and dijon mustard

brie, sliced green apples, and watercress.

So it is basically cheese slices, or Velveeta? I'm wondering if it also includes the strange cheese that I buy that is labelled medium cheddar but is sort of rubbery and melts beautifully but is not crumbly like real cheddar.
