Transplanted Chicagoan living in Minneapolis for the past 10 years, lurking in here for about a month now. The wife and I are planning our first trip as a family to DW in October '06. Wife loves all things Disney as do our kids (son 7, twin daughters 5). Me, well... Let's put it this way. The only Disney item I have is a hat the wife bought me at a Disney store. It's a "Grumpy" hat. But it's all an act, just don't tell the wife.
The impetus for the trip is actually a somber one at first glance. My father passed away about two months ago after several years of failing health. When I was a kid, he promised that one day he'd take me to Disneyworld. Life being the cruel trickster it can be decided that it just wasn't to be. I never held it against him, but I guess the kid in me always wanted dad to take him to Disneyworld. After he passed away, we decided that we were going to plan a fantastic DW vacation for the kids as a gift from him.
As of now, we're looking at staying from October 27th to November 4th (06) all of it on property at the Wilderness Cabins. We're getting the one meal a day thing and plan on doing most of our eating in the room, mostly to stretch our dollar as far as possible. So we can do all the little things that apparently add up to a small fortune. I've gotta say, it's really quite amazing to see how much there really is to do there and it's become a bit overwhelming given how many of the little things we have to decide on soon so we can make reservations and budget all the little things out. Fortunately this site and the forum have proven to be a treasure trove of tips and valuable information!
I just wanted to drop in a say hello and give my thanks to everyone for making this such a valuable resource. Looks like my dad is finally taking me to Disneyworld after all.
