Greatest Musical Entertainer of the 20th Century

I doubt Billy Joel is even at the top of Billy Joel's list. :)

Since this thread is apparently for DISers to post who we each consider the greatest entertainer/s of the 20th century, questioning someone else's opinion seems inappropriate. Nobody is questioning ANY other name so far - why question a choice made by several posters?

I don't agree with every name offered to this point - but I see no reason to question or require/expect validation from, anybody who has (or does) provide a name I wouldn't have.
are you saying I can't or shouldn't question it? please....the other names DON'T need questioning.

It seems to me that musical preference is going to play a role in eveyone's choices here. If you don't like country music and think its all "crying in your beer" and twang then of course you will not put Garth Brooks at the top of any list.

But, for that type of music Garth Brooks and Chris LeDeux were two to the greatest entainers of the 20th century. No one else in country music did the things these two did--as entertainers. No one else goes to the lengths these two went to for the enjoyment of the crowds.

My personal list would be topped by Elvis because most of these other folks wouldn't have had a career had Elvis not broken the barrier into that music type. And would go on to include the Beatles, Cher, Michael Jackson and Elton John. And actually it is my opinion that Michael Jackson should be at the top alongside Elvis. His talent and showman abilities were unsurpassed. Whatever you thought of his personal life, the man was the most talented person in the music industry.

The only one I would include that I haven't seen listed is Aerosmith. IMHO, they are the greatest band ever.

I would say Michael Jackson due to his performances, musical genius and longevity. Let's face it, this guy has been touring/making music since he was a kid. Over 40+ years. No one else can say that, not Elvis, Madonna, Beatles, etc. His shows were major productions, his videos were almost works of art, and his musical talent was geniune. He was also quite a trendsetter. As bizarre as he became personally, no one can refute his status as a MAJOR pop icon, or argue his influence in the music industry or his raw musical talent.

Mickey Mouse was the Greatest Entertainer of the 20th century. He is recognized around the world, and every new generation watches his cartoons.

Elvis
Beatles
Michael Jackson
Madonna

I'm going to say Prince.

I think so many of the others listed (Madonna, Michael Jackson, Elvis, and Garth Brooks) are VASTLY over rated. I will never understand the hype with any of them. :confused3

Personally I would say the same about Prince, But I agree with your assessment that he should be added to the list.

The Beatles for sure. Michael Jackson is definitely up there, but in my opinion, no one can top The Beatles.

Never even heard of this person before....:confused3

A bit pretentious to assume that only recent entertainers could possibly have been the best.

What about Charlie Chaplain? Or others from the early 1900s?

Or non-pop/movie people: Pablo Cassales, Luciano Pavarotti, Issac Perlman, etc. Classical musicians are entertainers, too. :)

chris or garth? I really hope you mean chris ledoto be honest I know just a little about him I acutally learned some stuff about him on this thread I have heard his songs before. And watched some of his videos last night on YouTube you can definalty see garth learned a lot from him and his high energy act!

Of course I know who Garth Brooks is! I highlighted the other person. Chris something or other. Never heard of him.

Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Queen (Freddie Mercury), Michael Jackson...I think they all created good music.

I would say the Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Elvis, Michael Jackson, Rolling Stones, Elton John, Madonna (event hough I can't stand her).

I just thought of another group, Queen

So ar my list consists of:

Elvis
MJ
Billy Joel
Celion Dion
The Beatles
Queen

Billy Joel is up there in my mind because he is a great entertainer (I never said icon I said entertainer). He sold out Madison Square Garden 12 times in 2006 which shows how big he still is. A lot of his albums were also more popular in Europe then America, that's his world wide influence

The only reason Frank Sanatra is not on my list is because I can only name one of his songs, "New York, New York" and I know a lot of teens that havent heard of Sanatra at all. His music just isnt standing up to the test of time
