I posted this on the CB, but I figured it's budget related so--- For anyone who's been to the Great Wolf Lodge, do you know of any restaurants, fast food or sit down close to the Lodge? I've heard the food at the Lodge is expensive. Thanks!

We love GWL! We were there in June and again in November. We ate at Friendly's for dinner and the local diner (the one a bit further away, not right next to the lodge) for breakfast. I have heard that the pizza place across the street is good, too. We took subs with us, left them in the fridge overnight and then checked out at 11am and put them in our locker for an hour then ate lunch. We stayed till about 4pm both times, and didn't eat there at all the second trip ~ way too expensive, and the pizza was terrible. Ask if you have any other questions, or do a search, there are lots of other threads on GWL. We will probably be going back sometime in February or March, if not then, we will go when I have hit 100lbs lost.

The friendly's is right down the road from the hotel- The better diner is the one that is right by 80. The one you see right from the exit. There is a brewery place as you drive to Camelback mountain- follow the signs to Camelback and you will see The Barley Creek Brewing Company- it is really good bar food(but kid friendly-) They have a treasure chest that the kids get to pick something out of after they eat. It is cute... Good micro beer too! Oh here is a whole list of nearby places....

The other one on that list that we have gone to was The Smuggler's Cove(it is like an old fashioned steak and fish place) of the ones I mentioned this is more "fancy" as minorly fancy as the Poconos can get.
There is an outlet mall right next door to the hotel and they have an au bon pain and some other quick food.
My Dad used to have a house on Camelback mountain. And we have had many a bad meal in the Poconos- my one tip do not I repeat DO NOT get any chinese food!

There is a really close diner, you can't miss. It had wonderful food.

I just wanted to say that we liked the food there!!! Starbucks for breakfast, the buffet for lunch, and the pizza was Pizza Hut pizza- our favorite chain. We only stayed one night, but did manage to squeeze in 2 full days there, and didn't want to take time to change into dry clothes, drive, etc. It is in a somewhat isolated place- didn't see anything outside of it. This was for DS's birthday- not a party, just a family thing- and we were able to get a cake at the pizza place, as well. :goodvibes We did do the waterpark food for lunch one day- regular amusement park fare, but it was fine. They serve alcohol at almost every place there, and there are pool bars inside and out.

We loved the GWL. The Starbucks in the lobby was heaven! We ate on site. The breakfast was quite good. For lunch, there are a few inexpensive options at the snack bar and deli (next to the waterpark). Dinner was expensive and not very good. Next time we'll try the Friendlys down the street.:thumbsup2

We were just at the GWL in Mason Ohio. It seems most of these are set up the same.

Your room will have a microwave and small refrigerator. DH and I brough food for the kids and us to eat for breakfast and lunch plus snack stuff, then just went out for dinner. It wasn't all too bad. $45.00 for dinner that included 2 adult and 2 kids meals plus a margarita. And the next night we got pizza from pizza hut express that was $22.00.

I just couldn't imagine leaving the waterpark, getting dressed, leaving the resort , getting something to eat and coming back. I almost had to pry my kids away just to go to the room or the restaurant in the hotel to eat.

There is a grocery store around the corner which makes good sandwiches and stuff. It's actually right near the outlets on rt 611...Mr Z's. There is also a descent pizza place in the same shopping center.

I live in the Pocono's and good food is slim pickins...:goodvibes

One restaurant I go to is Black Bear Lodge on rt 715. If you are on Rt 611 near the outlets and you see the Mr Z's shopping center on your right, Rt 715 is on the left. Take rt 715 a few miles and the restaurant is on the right. The food is awesome and the prices are pretty good.

Another place which is almost like Barley Creek but the food is alot better is Pocono Brewing Company on rt 611. The wings are excellent.

the pizza place delivers to the lodge just qsk at front desk for a menu and the food store is about 5 min away . where we reloaded on snacks ad such have fun well be there pres wekend:cool1:

another tip i learned on my last trip we stay at the lodge for 2 nghts check out in the morning load up our car ad use the lodge the rest of the day and then at 10:00 go tro the hotel like 5 steps away and get a well rested nights sleep and hed home in the mornihg you save alot of money :thumbsup2 the hotel was like 59.00 a night

This sounds like a great family trip. Can someone give me some more info on the GWL? I have 3 kids - ages 8,6 and 2. Would there be something for the 2 year old to do (she will be 3 in April). Also, how expensive are the rooms - and are they clean? Thanks for any info!

Go to Greatwolflodge.com. There are several locations.

The rooms were clean in Mason but then again the place was only 2 weeks old. ;) My 3 yo DD was able to ride all the slides except the rollercoaster accompanied by an adult. My 8yo DS loved the place also.

The rooms are very cute, all themed. They aren't cheap though. Check the website though. They sometimes have some specials going on.

They have a "kiddie" section with sprays ect.. the problem I had was that my 2 year old wanted to follow his older brother up into the "fort" Which was ok but I had to go along- it is very slippery. So be prepared to get wet! He loved the lazy river(tiny lazy river but just his speed.) There was plenty for him to do. Be prepared for the game room too! My kids love it*we set a $ limit before we go in... they save tickets if we are going for a couple of days- and then in the end get something with their tickets- usually a wolf of some kind. Now We have not done the "wizard" stuff they just started. They have wands and special "lights" for the wands- That is next on our list- although no game room then(can't blow all the $$ want to get to Disney)
Oh and on deals- they run them all the time- just register at the website and you will get deals emailed or sometimes I get postcards- or just check out the deal section on the website- generally during the week is way cheaper. Rooms are big and clean*we do a kid cabin because the kids love having their "own" room and tv.

Thanks for the info! I just checked out their site and the place looks great! Does anyone know if they take a AAA discount? Also, would two nights be long enough to experience everything? Thanks again!

Doesn't Splash lagoon offer just "day passes" to the water park? So anyone can use it not just hotel guests. That is the thing I like about GWL- they keep the crowds down by only allowing hotel guests(and their friends-you can buy extra wrist bands) And is it a hotel? on the website it was showing rooms at nearby hotels? I would like to try it though....
And on GWL 2 days is PLENTY! Remember you can use the pool area from 11AM on check in day(I think) and all day the day you check out. But be warned the area that they say you can "change" in in the pool area is not private by any means- all open. so if you have issues with public nudity- not a great option.

Is that new? When we went to the GWL in the Wisconsin Dells a couple of years ago we did not stay there but were able to purchase wrist bands from the front desk. They did limit the number they would sell to non-guests each day, so the number of swimmers was still tightly controlledd.

In the Poconos and the Virginia one*the only 2 I have been to- it was no outside guests using the facilities.

Ok sounds good! I think we may try it out! I just want to clarify...this isn't the place someone posted about a few weeks ago that was so dirty and had cobwebs and bugs, right? LOL! I am a clean freak and that would really freak me out:(
