Great, underused words

I'm gonna throw one in there, not sure how great it is, I just like the way it sounds.

Egregious

I teach an animal behavior class, and our current favorite "scientific term for a little idea" is kleptoparasitism.....that is when you steal (usually food) from a member of your own troop. So, my three DDs engage in kleptoparasitism when they steal one another's clothes.....makes it sound SO much more dramatic than "hey, you stole my shirt"!

We also like that sometimes it is easier to take a contrarian position (just go to the other feeder) than duke it out with your competitors. My DS must be a contrarian because he doesn't engage in kleptoparasitism with his sisters.

Now, if I could only find a plethora of contrarians to share my newfound jocularity during this autumnal season! Balderdash, I guess I will just stick to copious kleptoparasitism, and when caught, blame my sonambulism.

two great, underused "words":

supercalifragilisticexpialidocious (because somebody had to say it)

&

fortuosity (just because)

----------------------

"No" is a great answer IMO, but "INCONCEIVABLE!" (and it has to be shouted and have that exclamation point!) is way overused (but still funny, lol)

-----------------------

"plethora" brings fond memories to mind (but "SAT" does not!) & I just used "veritable" elsewhere a few minutes ago

Hmmm...

Well, as a kid I always used to say 'abominable' whenever possible, because I knew in my heart that when I said it everyone would shout 'snowman' inside there heads. And it is fun to say. A bomb in a bowl. Haha....

And what about raconteur, paroxysm, pastiche and, um.. antidisestablishmentarianism?

I think that would be inconceivable.

I think I am the one that used "Blotto" :)

I also like the word "petulant"

I read a lot of British Mysteries and watch BBC -sometimes I find myself wanting to use expressions from those -that people here in GA aren't always familiar with.
One time I accidentally used "Gobsmacked". The person I was talking too thought I was crazy and I felt foolish.

I am loving this thread....even though Goofyluver stole my favorite word.

I can't think of any of my words....hmmmph....I'll post when I think of something!!!!

My son has been on a kick with "unbeknownst" lately.

I have always been fond of "fatuous".

That word came to mind for me too. :)

Duplicity, guile
Serendipity
Bereft
Wonky. Just because I like it. :upsidedow
