Great Trip at OKW - But 1 Thing Made Me Mad

That ferret story is quite nasty. Thinking about seeing that in the middle of the night creeps me out and the thought of it peeing in the hotel walls for a week isn't too sweet either. That lady should have been charged some sort of damage fees.

Isn't it amazing how one person's stupidity can effect so many others?

We have 2 ferrets...they are adorable, very intelligent and highly misunderstood...that's how they get into so much trouble. Personally I would never travel with them because if they did get lost you'd have a heck of a time catching them. In my case...just shake the Fruit Loops box and they come running...thank you Toucan Sam!

As long as you keep them away from babies with milk.

We were in OKW 12/8-12/12. While there, we stayed in building 14. We saw a man talking to another man and one of them was walking a dog. My dh was furious and called the front desk. We don't know what happened after that but I think we all need to police OKW nand if anyone sees an animal on the property (not a service dog) they should report it immediately.

As I was reading this thread, this is exactly what I was thinking. Yes, the OP saw this person with this dog in the carrier, but its very possible that he was coming/going to/from the kennel at that time. If he left the dog in the car, and one of us saw this, what a thread that would be! And equally as wrong!

The dog or animal does not belong in any rooms!!! or on property at all! Take the animal to the kennel first or better yet, leave them at home. I am allergic to cats and I certainly wouldn't want to be in a room where someone had it there for just a few minutes!

It's the rules. NO ANIMALS!

First let me say that I agree that Rules are made to be followed not broken......PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED.......Also let me say that I understand people suffer from allergies and the best cure is to avoid exposure.............However, why is it that people are so against DVC creating some sort of "Pet Friendly" policy.

Most "Pet Friendly" hotels Charge an extra fee to cover the "extra" cleaning costs.....DVC could do the same. ( BTW I wish I still had the article where the CEO of a Major hotel chain stated that on a percentage basis Kids and teens cause more damage and cleaning issues then pets.)

Many "Pet Friendly" Hotels have seperate Buildings/rooms and areas for pets......DVC could do the same. Even the talk of creating such an area at a brand new DVC resort has been met with criticism on these boards in the past.

DVC has to allow Service Dogs by law ...... currently DVC has no policy in place that controls which rooms these animals occupy. This likely often exposes those with pet allergies to the pet dander left behind. Having preassigned "Pet Friendly" rooms would vastly help to minimize if not eliminate this problem.

I guess what I am trying to figure out is if its a win-win and the pet owners are paying, why are so many against it. Although there would be more pets they are more isolated from the allergy suffers then with the current policy.

I just wish DVC would give the issue some serious thought.

In the mean time .... report possable offenders to the Front Desk and leave you pets in the kennel or at home.

I'm not against it at all.

We'd love to be able to bring Mabel back to WDW... the only time she's been there was in 2001 when we stayed in our RV at Fort Wilderness. Having her along on the trip was great. As a matter of fact, the ability to bring her with us on vacations was one of the primary reasons we boughjt the rv. Now, with the toddler, staying in rooms at DVC seems to work out better... In the future maybe we'll do the rv thing again.

But in the meantime, it would be nice if DVC had a set of rooms or a building at a resort or two that were pet friendly. And we would gladly pay any extra fees they might charge for extra cleaning, etc.

And a good point about the service animals... I'm sure they stay in various rooms already. I wonder if they keep up with it at all? A guest with dander allergies could very easily be booked into a room that had previously been occupied by a service animal.

Like I said before, part of being mad at the guy for having the dog was because we had to leave our pet at home. His pooch is no more special than ours...

OK, 1st of all, my thanks again to the Forum Member from whom we rented points. We had a great time in our Studio at OKW.

This was our second experience renting points, and both trips were excellent.

We stayed Sun nite thru departure Fri morning.

On Friday morning, while taking stuff to the car, I noticed this fellow in a big hurry going down the stairs ahead of me. Then I noticed why he was in such a rush. The cleaning staff was there setting stuff at the doors of the units they were gonna clean. And he was trying to get past them unnoticed with his duffel bag.

Not an ordinary duffel bag... this one had a mesh covering at one end... and a dog's face happily looking thru the mesh.

Boy was I mad!

I agree with the concerns stated by other posters. I have two dogs that I love and I take them with me to DVC-HHI everytime we visit--but they stay in the doggy hotel near by. I've never even had them in my car on property. We spent Thanksgiving at Hilton Head and there was a dog in one of the units in Live Oak Lodge. I never saw it, but I certainly heard it several times during th course of our stay. I didn't report it--I'm not sure how they would have found the critter, but it was annoying to say the least.

I'm against it because although yes, DVC could charge an extra fee to cover the "extra" cleaning that fee would likely be passed onto each and every member and I don't want to pay that extra fee. I don't see them only charging the members who are in favor of it because then you'll have the occassional member who doesn't normally take Fido with them but then there's always that "oh, this time we could always take him" since "grandma" or whoever can't watch him as usual and now they allow pets :/ .If DVC decided to allow pets than I personnally think they'd pass along the dues to all of us and hike up the points for those "pet friendly" rooms as well and I just am not in favor of it. You mention how kids are more on the wear and tear of the rooms - well, you may indeed be correct but kids are suppossed to visit WDW - it wasn't created for the pets. I'm willing to pay dues for that but not for Fifi or Fido on top of the average wear and tear. JMO.

Again, I think they would likely pass the fees onto us all not just the pet owners. As for being against them building a specific area for "pet friendly", I also don't see them building on an entire DVC resort of it's own just for "pet friendly" - I don't see there being enough DVC members interested in owning points at one - I could be wrong but I don't see it. As for having specific rooms - well, I'm sure they do have the occassional service dog. These dogs, I would think are highly trained and won't be peing on the leg of the couch or chewing the coffee table leg - the dander you can't control but I'd hope they go in after a service dog stay and give it a better than usual cleaning to try and control this - but who knows? I do think that the service dogs are few and far between as I have yet to see one although I'm sure they visit - just not nearly as often as people. If they only designated certain rooms for "pet friendly", what would happen when the resort is at capacity? Does the overflow extend into the "non-pet friendly" rooms? or when they referbish those rooms - do they do the same? Too many things I just cannot see DVC doing and us members who don't want the pet friendly thing to have to pay extra for.

JMO though.

Another reason not to allow them is that a lot of people don't pick up after them. I certainly don't want to walk in it and I doubt any one else would either. Also, what if a "pet-friendly" building is next door and all you hear is barking all night. Can you imagine what these places would smell like?? Remember, not every one makes sure their animals go outside. Look how some people take care of these places now, I don't even want to imagine how they would take care of them with pets.

If someone can't stand to be away from their pet for vacation, then either leave the pet in the kennel at WDW or don't take a WDW vacation. OH, and by the way, I have 3 dogs.... and I don't want them at OKW!

We pay a lot of dues...we have 2,000 points at OKW and we do not want that money going to pay for cleaning up after pets!

Let me tell you a story that was told to us in line at Downtown Disney. We started talking to a lady in front of us and she was staying at Pop Century. She showed us some bites she had on her back and legs. They were bed bug bites. How do we know this? My husband is a physician. Her entire family was bitten by these little critters including her infant daughter who was only a few months old. Can you imagine the turmoil if people started getting bitten by fleas, tics, or scabies ( mange)???? As of when we spoke to her, they gave her $100 off her bill. She was from California, had never been to WDW before and was appalled by the way they had been treated and the way the room had been serviced.

All of you who want a "pet-friendly" resort should think long and hard about it. Just because you may take good care of your animals doesn't mean every one else does. Florida has a problem with fleas as it is.

Pick up after them, great, but some dog's urine kills grass....and can't pick that up. One of the reasons we love Disney is the lush and near perfect landscaping. Not interested in burned out patches of brown.
