Great movie ride!!

Fixed.

As for the Clint Eastwood appearance in the ride, as far as I can tell it isn't a tribute to any one specific movie, but rather simply Eastwood's influence in the Western genre. As previously mentioned, either The Outlaw Josie Wales or The Man with No Name trilogy works in the capacity the ride portrays him (though Unforgiven is my personal favorite Eastwood Western).

This is satire, right?

You've never watched the movies then if you can't make the distinction. The poncho Clint is wearing is the trademark of the man with no name from the referenced movies

OP - I need to hook you up with my son. :rotfl2: He LOVES that ride, even though I don't think he's seen any of the movies except WOZ. While I don't dislike it, I'm just plain bored with it at this point. We seem to visit DHS 4 or 5 out of 7 days every trip, and ride GMR a minimum of twice each day we visit. I think I could manage 90% of the dialogue from memory at this point.

Great ride the first few times though.

Check out the ride's wikipedia entry... it lists all movies shown in the ride, as well as all movies shown in the final montage. (Your kids' minds will be mush if you try to go through all those. There are a total of 117 movies represented in the montage. 11 listed for the ride.)

I left out the Wizard of Oz?? What the hell man? I thought I had put it in first. My brain not functioning. I didn't recall them actually mentioning "The Searchers" during the ride...but as we've seen with Oz, the brain seems broken today. Some sources cite The Searchers and some don't.

"The Searchers" is mentioned during the Western show, in the Western scene. However....the majority of the time you won't hear the line (because the tour guide is usually cut off before they can get it out).

Thanks for the list -- those are the movies that are referenced in the actual ride right??? What about that awesome photo montage they do at the end of the ride ... I must say I don't like waiting in line (which I will not to get on) but I don't think the movies are "crappy" ... isn't that the whole point of the ride --- that these movies and/or actors represent the best of the best (well excluding that Whoopie Goldberg movie with her as a nun --- I like her but not that movie ... she was awesome in The Color Purple so I don't know why they show that Sister Act movie at the end) ... anyway,..... I want to know all of the movies, if any one knows...thanks so much

We love the Great Movie Ride too! We are fans of these movies (I think that about 50-70% of those listed I have seen, and most of them are my favorites) We ride TGMR every time we are at HS. That is the ONLY ride there that me have to do, and I'm pretty sure that it is the only one the whole family will do.

Just letting you know, I read somewhere that the Alien movies are rated R. Not sure if that will be a problem.

The movies represented in the Great movie Ride:

Casablanca
Mary Poppins
Raiders of the Lost Ark

Clint Eastwood/John Wayne westerns (I recommend Outlaw Josie Wales and True Grit)

Let's not forget "The Wizard of Oz", and "The Searchers" as others that are actually represented in the ride.

I googled TGMR and found all of these. Unless your trip is a long way off, then you might have a hard time watching all of them!

Good luck!

I'm impressed that they also include in that list the movies that used to be in the montage - though I can't be sure the list is complete.

In my 20 years of visiting WDW (first trip ended 20 years ago yesterday!) I think they've gone through four versions of the montage. It would be interesting to see each version listed individually.

I told my husband I really want to see "The Artist." He said it is because it reminds me of the great movie ride. Seriously it is one of my favorite attractions. Absolute must do for me. (Although I do not like the gangster/cowboy shtick.)

I love this ride! This ride always reminds me of my late dad. It was thru him I learned to appreciate a movie with a good story regardless of its age. Among them Casablanca, The man who shot Liberty Valance, High Noon, and my dads favorite ..Shane. We're going in a week and I'll be eagerly waiting for the ride to start:)

TGMR is a nice attraction but it hasn't aged well. This was "E Ticket" material when the studios opened but the technology seems a bit dated. Certainly worth at least a "one time through" :earsboy:

You've never watched the movies then if you can't make the distinction. The poncho Clint is wearing is the trademark of the man with no name from the referenced movies

The character in the ride is not wearing a poncho. He wears a duster and a white scarf. Josey Wales wears a red scarf and as you already pointed out, TMwNN wears a poncho.

I was pointing out that because the ride character resembles neither character specifically, it's not representing a particular movie but rather Eastwood's overall influence on the Western genre.

Reading is fundamental. :teacher:

Or you can just continue trying to look like a condescending know-it-all.

There are a total of 117 movies represented in the montage. 11 listed for the ride.)

Not really if they take their time. My son watched all 100 films on the original AFI top 100 list and then when the new list was announced in 2007, he watched the new ones included on that one. I think it turned out to be 124 movies. Took him a few years but he did it. Even the silent ones and ones he thought he wouldn't like.
