I would love to go on the Great Movie Ride. Sounds cool except the Alien part. That creature scared me! Is it too intense for my kids?

Only you know your kids, but we took my DD on it at 14 mos and at 2 and she didn't have a problem either time. Of course, it takes a lot to scare her. I would say if your kids don't scare easily try it, Otherwise I would maybe skip it or ride it while your dh takes care of the little ones.

As always, YKYK - You Know Your Kids. That said, I'd bet it's too intense. Not only the Alien scene, but there is the extended gunfire of the gangster scene, and the skeleton-end of the Indy finale.

We took our boys ages at the time 5 & 3 and they were scared. Did not like the alien scene or the gangster scene. We were at WDW last year and they were 7 & 5, hestitated but were okay. They understood it was pretend and nothing was going to happen to them. I am hoping to get them to try the Haunted Mansion. However, they say that I have to go on Splash Mountain first. I think I may be doing Haunted Mansion myself.. :)

We took our kids when they were 4 and 20 months. The baby didn't know what was happening, and we told the 4 year old that if she wanted to go, there were parts she needed to close her eyes for. Whenever we got to something scary, she'd put her head in my lap and cover her ears. Sounds nuts, I know, but it worked and she really wanted to go. She also loved some of it - especially the Wizard of Oz scene. It does move slow enough that you'd have time to react - you'd know if something scary for your kids was coming.

Knowing how kids might react to "gunfire", an alien, and small skeletons does certainly help. My suggestions, talk through it things like the gunfire focus on gangster talking to your tour guide. For the skeletons at the end of the Indiana Jones bit, talk about something else, it is really brief and you basically drive right though it. The alien part still freaks me out. Just so you know it comes out of your left hand wall. If you sitting towards the middle/ back of the train it will be fairly close to you. If you are in the front you basically have to turn all the way around to see it. When you enter the space ship you will see the dark top of it's head in the wall. So you will see it right away if you are looking for it. For the kids have them still towards the middle of the seats, remember alien on your left, and if you are sure they will not like the alien have them look at a map, the floor, whatever, and they can cover their ears if they feel the need. At least being in the middle of seat they are sort of distanced from being so close. This is a great ride and not to be missed. These are tips I used to survive the ride when I was younger! :goodvibes

My DH and I had gone on the great Movie Ride on our honeymoon and loved it. So as we "remembered" it 10 years later...we thought "It's not so scary". My DD (4) was really scared. The gunplay freaked her out, and then the Alien came down on top of her to top it off. Her head was buried in my lap the entire trip. And she loved HM, ToT, POC, etc...I felt horrible!

On the other hand...my 2 year old DS didn't mind a bit. Just took it all in, so it just kind of depends on your kids. Good luck!

When we went in 2000, our two oldest were just 4 and 2. The alien scared them and we just covered their eyes. The thing that freaked my son (the oldest) out was the fact we were in the very front, net to the guide and when our thing got hijacked, my son was worried it was for real...LOL

Definately agree that those two scenes may be scarey. The gun scene would scare me even more because of the real people involved in that scene.

Correction on my above post, the alien comes out of the RIGHT hand wall, why I said left I have no idea. The alien used to come out of the ceiling and that freaked a lot of people out including me, now it has been moved to the RIGHT wall. See what happens when I post late at night, I don't remember which side is which.

I want to say - it depends on your kids

my DD3 isn't afraid of anything - she LOVED it and was actually mad we didn't go on it again - she talks about how fun the shoot out was and that he stole our train but then our girl saved us -

it really depends on your child

We close dd 7 eyes but ds 4 loves it we sat behind the driver and he just talked and laughed away with her before she would do something she would whisper to him and it was probably one of the best experiences for him.

When I first read your post that said that the alien came out of the wall, I was thinking that I remembered the alien coming straight down from the ceiling. That was the part that freaked my almost 5 year old out (but not badly). When did they move it to the wall?

It freaks me out too...but 2 year old DS wasn't bothered by it at all! Have a great trip!

Well, my dd age 4 is scared of EVERYTHING. She wouldn't go on Pooh or peter pan, hated anything that was inside a building but we got her on the movie ride somehow. We explained to her that it was all mickey mouse magic and that mickey would never let anything in the park that would hurt her. I know her very well and she trusted this above all else. I knew once she actually got in there it wouldn't be too bad. Well, the gunfire didn't freak her out, because we told her about it, we also told her that our guide would go away but would surprise us later on by coming back and saving us. The alien scene didn't freak her out because she didn't look up and the alien comes out of the ceiling, we were basically right under it and I kept her distracted talking about mary poppins who we had already seen.

She liked it and would go on it again in a heartbeat. She STILL won't go on peter pan or pooh!

I think my kid was more freaked out by the Sougourney Weaver figure all panicky and heavy breathing! :earboy2:

When my DS was 6 we ate lunch at Sci-Fi and he had trouble with the campy movie clips! :earseek: He has always been the sweet, sensative type. All the screaming women being kidnapped by monsters bothered him. So we didn't try the movie ride. But last trip at 8 he loved it! We must have gone on it 3 or 4 times that week! He even got brave enough to try TOT, well don't think he'll try that again. One of our family jokes is "never the same fear twice!".

Everyone is right, only you can know what would upset your own children.

I took my girls when they were 1 and 3. The one-year-old was unaffected, but the 3-year-old hated it. She was upset before the Alien, more because of the unknown factor. I couldn't remember the ride 100 percent to warn her about each upcoming scene. Also, remember that it's a ride made for adults and is rather long for little ones to sit through.

That being said, she was also scared by the Heffalumps in Winnie-the-pooh, and wouldn't go into the dark Buzz Lightyear ride :-)

I guess it comes down to whether your kids like rides in the dark, and whether they'll sit that long.

Remember, you only see the Alien if you look up. Depending on where in the car you are, some people don't even see him (because he resets back into the hole). If you can distract the kids and not get them to look up at it you may be all set.

Most kids take it in stride - if they've never seen the Alien movies (which I assume at 2 they haven't, hehe) then the whole scene is much less ominous.

Good luck!
