Great Movie Ride Closing August 13

To me, the new Mickey ride sounds very promising, so I'm looking forward to that. But I would have preferred that they just build that ride rather than replace GMR. They could have upgraded GMR, or replaced some of the scenes, etc. On our last two visits (both times in October) we waited 20-25 for GMR, so it's not like the ride has lost all of its popularity.

Until the new stuff opens, DHS is going to stand for Disney Hollywood Shows.

My question is, will it be handicapped accessible? TGMR was, my brother could stay in his wheelchair (he is a quad) and he loved the show. He cannot really transfer as he has to be physically carried, and is unable to sit on his own without us holding him up. Any new rides that are built that do not accommodate wheelchairs just make his experiences at WDW less and less. Which is a shame because he really really loves to go to WDW!

Far too early to know that. There are no details besides the very basic ride concept. I hope your brother will be able to ride!

So sad to see it go and sad to lose a film based attraction.
I was sad when it stopped beIng MGM and they have gradually lost most of the things about film making ...there used to be the backlot tour, catastrophe canyon, seeing how they filmed in the tank etc. Not really a studios park anymore.
We will miss GMR as we visit after the closure and may only go to the park for a couple of hours. I know it's not a museum and has to evolve and develop but I think they are losing the essence of this park

This is really upsetting, as I'll be there a month later. Plus, how can they close it now with so much other stuff at DHS closed? Annoying.
I was just saying this. There really isn't much to do for the price of admission in Hollywood Studios. I wish they had kept it open until part of the expansion was done and open.

We were going to do HS as a morning park and scoot on over a different night for just Fantasmic. Now with GMR going down I feel trying to just hit the rides in the morning would be a waste of time because everyone there will be racing to all the same 4 attractions because that's all that will be left for people to do. I can't imagine even using fastpass helping out with that congestion; besides we want to use our FP's for AK later that day. I think we'll just stick to a fantasmic night at HS.

It was a walk on up until about a year or two ago. Now it's way more common to see it with a 30-45 min wait.

I don't like it closing because my wife and I have some great memories on the ride. And in terms of a "boring" ride, I wouldn't classify it anywhere near boring. There's a slew of rides I'd rather see close before GMR: Jungle Cruise, mission space, speedway, stitch, carousel of progress, beauty and the beast show, tiki room, and I'm sure I could name a few more.

Their not closing GMR because it's not popular, because it is really popular.. But mainly because the TCM sponsorship is ending and there's really nowhere else to put a bigger ride unless they closed the batb arena and started construction over there, but that area is where the gondola construction is going

I'm amazed when people act like their trip is ruined because mission space, splash, or dinosaur is down for a refurb. But closing of the GMR is a bigger impact.

It also leaves me disappointed because the mickey ride, just judging from what they showed, looks terrible.

I think the Mickey ride looks promising,I'm not too upset about GMR going,I always enjoyed the ride but I was pretty over the gangster taking over the ride vehicle,I always found that part of the ride annoying.Amazingly after riding GMR countless times only recently did I get the cowboy scene, again nothing special, but I will miss other parts of the ride.I do agree with many of the rides you would close before GMR except for one which I highly disagree,Carousel of Progress!!Come on its one of the only attractions left that Walt actually worked on and he mentioned it should never cease operations,I go in there all the time cause I really enjoy it and of course for the catchy jingle.

We've only ever ridden it one (last year) and I'm not too disappointed in it going away. I do agree with a lot of others who think the timing stinks, though.

Don't know if anyone answered this yet, but I just got the "we've switched your experience" emails ... to the Muppets
I didn't get an email but they did replace my fast pass

Here's what odd

I got the replacement for GMR bit then I also got any anytime any park FP. Even includes FoP or Navi at AK. And it's good from 8/18 till 11/18. Did anyone else get one?

I think it's too early for me to place judgment on the quality of the new ride as we have seen very little to this point. However I can say that I am extremely disappointed that the model for the characters will be the new shorts. To build a ride based on Mickey and Minnie and not use the classic look that appears everywhere else in the parks is a major mistake.

We're there on the last day it's open, so felt obliged to book a FP for it.
We gad one booked for later in the trip, but had an email this morning to say it'd been swapped for Muppets! No thank you Disney, I'll rearrange that FP myself thank, you!

I go to Disneyland and Disney World fairly often. When I am at Disneyland, I'm always impressed with how many attractions they cram into a small space. Everyone always talks about how Disney world was blessed with all this land, but they don't really utilize it. When Star Wars opens in 2019, it's going to have massive crowds on both coasts. If the lines are too long or you simply are not interested, you've got a bazillion options when you're at Disneyland. Not so much at DHS. DHS should be trying to get as many attractions in that park as they can. TGMR needed a refresh but the park still needs rides, even after Star Wars and Toy Story opens. I think the Mickey ride sounds great but it's a lateral move with attraction count in the park.

Just the rebooking, here...no extra FP.

Edit: There was no indication in the email notification, but I just saw it in MDE. It says that no changes can be made, so I think it best to hold onto it to use as a spur of the moment perk. I just hope that it doesn't just disappear, before using it.

I got those while we were in the parks and something closed due to weather (Indiana Jones) and once in FOP (our fastpass worked.at the bottom but by the time.we got up to the ride we flashed blue, the CM let us on and we got an email shortly after with another free fp).
