Great Movie Ride Closing August 13

I didn't get an email but they did replace my fast pass

Here's what odd

I got the replacement for GMR bit then I also got any anytime any park FP. Even includes FoP or Navi at AK. And it's good from 8/18 till 11/18. Did anyone else get one?

I got auto-switched to Muppets (yeah, no Disney, that is not an acceptable Tier 1 replacement.) Then we got the anytime, anywhere FP - any attraction in all of WDW, 8/14-11/18 - for 12 of the 13 members of our party. What gives? I really don't want to call about this, ugh!

I'm not sure what you want Disney to do about reassigning your FastPasses. They can't read minds and automatically know what you'd like instead. You've got the ability to go in and switch it to whatever you'd like.

Aw, we're going to miss both GMR and Ellen, as we don't travel til December. Ellen I could take or leave, but GMR was one of our favorites. My sister is very sad about DHS, as it's her favorite park-or it was. For me though, I love Mickey Mouse stuff, so the new ride sounds promising to me. I hope that they'll keep the Chinese Theater facade.

I kind of wish I had booked a GMR FastPass.

I can see why TGMR no longer fits Disney's objectives, unfortunately for fans of TGMR. When the park first opened, the whole project was a reaction to Universal Studios invading on Disney's turf. They wanted to prove that there was no reason for visitors to leave WDW property, so they licensed a wide range of movies from Aliens to the Wizard of Oz. They were able to play up how you could see all of Hollywood in one place. But I'm wondering if there are a lot of ongoing licensing fees being paid, not to mention the fact that Disney is promoting the films of its competitors in a centerpiece attraction.

I go to Disneyland and Disney World fairly often. When I am at Disneyland, I'm always impressed with how many attractions they cram into a small space. Everyone always talks about how Disney world was blessed with all this land, but they don't really utilize it. When Star Wars opens in 2019, it's going to have massive crowds on both coasts. If the lines are too long or you simply are not interested, you've got a bazillion options when you're at Disneyland. Not so much at DHS. DHS should be trying to get as many attractions in that park as they can. TGMR needed a refresh but the park still needs rides, even after Star Wars and Toy Story opens. I think the Mickey ride sounds great but it's a lateral move with attraction count in the park.

Too true. Sometimes, having resource constraints forces people to get more creative and push themselves harder. Having too much makes people complacent, and maybe that's true for companies as well. For all the land that's available, it's unfortunate to not just be expanding.

Tier 1 for Tier 1 would have been a good start. Not allowing FPs to be booked for an attraction they knew would be closing would have been even better.

Still, that's just a minor annoyance. The "ugh" was referring to the anytime FP only being issued to 12 of the 13 members of my party. I appreciate the gesture/proactive guest recovery, but it would be nice if their IT worked well enough that it actually worked!

I'm betting that anytime FP is just a glitch and it'll magically disappear.

If not though, it'll be a nice thing to have

If you close a Tier 1 ride you replace the Tier 1 ride with another Tier 1 ride. Seems logical, no?

I agree you can go in and move it to something else but really, replace it with a Tier 2? That's just not right. The default should be another of the same tier

Because the system changed the GMR fast pass to something else already, and only a few people, or one poster, mentioned that they were gifted an anytime FP.. That wasn't even sent to everyone in their party.

So it doesn't seem everyone with a GMR FP after it's closing date was given an anytime FP, which is why I think the system just made a glitch. If it was intended then why didn't everyone get one?

I was just simply stating to keep an eye out in case it changes, which it could. Would be sweet to have an anytime FP so I'm hoping it stays for those that have it.

But apparently that's "negative" to some people lololol. Alright

So our trip is August 12-18. Our HS day was August 14th... Our arrival day was going to be Epcot but once I heard about this, I checked expecting not much to be done in the planning of FPs. To my surprise, everything still had plenty of FPs at both parks. So now, HS is our arrival day park and Epcot is our August 14th park. I selected GMR as our first FP. I see it as saying goodbye to a beloved attraction (at least beloved to me) and giving it a sendoff. We'll wait in line for TSMM to be able to enjoy GMR one last time.

I actually was the first one to post that I got an anytime FP. The PP was responding that they got one too but it was missing 1 member of their party. Ours was for the same number as our GMR FP

I had a FP for GMR. It was replaced with something else. Plus we were given an anytime FP that is valid at any park for any ride for the dates from 8/14 to 11/18. Seems pretty specific to be a glitch but sure, it's possible it was.

This is really upsetting, as I'll be there a month later. Plus, how can they close it now with so much other stuff at DHS closed? Annoying.
Yeah, I agree. They really don't have enough other attractions open there currently to do this. We're skipping HS currently with so much closed and construction

I enjoyed the Great Movie ride more before the TCM update. I did not ride on my last visit in June. I am sad to see this closing. If i knew, i would have gone on again. It was very unique and i will miss the Mary Poppins scene.

I don't think the anytime FP is a glitch... my assumption was that it was a guest recovery method. Especially because, at right around the 30 day mark, there's a pretty good possibility there may not be enough other tier 1s left to go around. If a party had little kids and there was no TSMM - this way you have the option to ride a headliner without a wait, and they also allowed you to keep your original 3rd.

We have tons of problems with IT and our accounts. Two party members consistently disappear from FPs (but if I try to add another for the day, the system tells me they've used all three - so I know they're "there," we just can't see them!) However, this is a DIFFERENT party member. I think I'm just going to wait until I arrive to get it fixed. I really hate calling, lol.

We fell in love with the GMR on our trip last Thanksgiving (2016) when we tried it for the first time. So glad we were able to do it twice in June while we were there.
I think it's wonderful and wish they found a way to keep it alive.
