Great Movie Ride Closing August 13

We've all just taken a moment...

Had heard it maybe on its way out ,but seriously thought it would coincide with toy story land or star wars land openings..
Just can't comprehend closing in mid august :scared:

So, increase my pain-what are the dates of closure for Ellen and figment?
Not hotly cool nor coolly hot.:guilty:

Figment, as in Journey Into Imagination? That's not closing.

Wait, Figment is going? If true, I missed that. I will NOT handle that well! As for Ellen, it's also closing August 13.

I enjoyed GMR and liked to ride it each time I was at DHS, but it doesn't really break my heart to see it go. It was never getting updated (other than the film montage at the end) and my partner was never thrilled about riding it. Not sure I feel about the replacement ride that is coming, but I can't imagine it being much a downgrade. And even if it is, there is lots of exciting stuff coming down the pike at DHS, so its all good. It was never a full day park for me, even when everything has been up and operating. I suspect that will change in a couple years

AT first glance, it's hard to get excited about the replacement. Maybe there is more to it, but seems like a step back in quality.

I don't mind it closing but the timing is poor. My kids can't/won't do rockin or tot, so there was already not many rides for us there. We go in sept.
I couldn't agree more. My small kids don't want/can't do those rides either. Hope the replacement is something that smaller children can ride and for myself a non simulator so I can ride :) I am a little confused on exactly how this ride will work.

Got my fastpasses for the 13th. Not super bummed but I do have a friend who is Mugsy and he's pretty sad

I honestly can't believe the grief people are expressing about GMR closing. IMO it's one of the most boring rides on property. This thing was always a walk-on. If it was really that loved it wouldn't be going anywhere.

I can't wait until they officially announce Stitch is closing and then everyone comes out crying about how it's their favorite ride.

Personally, I think ditching GMR and giving Mickey his first ride ever is the best decision Disney has made in years.

Once DHS is transformed, i think most fans will like the result. DCA had a similar period of construction. In the meantime, I don't spend more much time there and wouldn't consider ever visiting without a hopper.

I wouldn't scoff at the new Mickey ride yet. Disney can do good work when it has the budget and imagination.

My daughter is 20 and is going to sob when I inform her of this. She's been visiting WDW since she was 2 and this is one of her all-time favorites. Thank goodness we are going next week and we can visit one last time  I'm so sorry for those who won't make it.

My 27 year old DD likes it too (along with Carousel of Progress; I never understood her affection for either) but she did ride it her last trip in 2013 so that'll have to do.

Dang, we're arriving August 16th. In the last few days we've now lost Mission Space, GMR, and Ellen for our trip. Starting to get pretty annoyed.

It was a walk on up until about a year or two ago. Now it's way more common to see it with a 30-45 min wait.

I don't like it closing because my wife and I have some great memories on the ride. And in terms of a "boring" ride, I wouldn't classify it anywhere near boring. There's a slew of rides I'd rather see close before GMR: Jungle Cruise, mission space, speedway, stitch, carousel of progress, beauty and the beast show, tiki room, and I'm sure I could name a few more.

Their not closing GMR because it's not popular, because it is really popular.. But mainly because the TCM sponsorship is ending and there's really nowhere else to put a bigger ride unless they closed the batb arena and started construction over there, but that area is where the gondola construction is going

I'm amazed when people act like their trip is ruined because mission space, splash, or dinosaur is down for a refurb. But closing of the GMR is a bigger impact.

It also leaves me disappointed because the mickey ride, just judging from what they showed, looks terrible.

Yeah, for those going later or in Sept, you can add splash to the list. I posted this on another thread, but I think with GMR closing, it will make the other parks very very crowded. I think many will skip DHS making the other parks more packed. Plus, with Ellen and MS closed in Epcot, then Splash in MK, it will feel very busy. Less room to spread out.

I enjoyed the GMR ride as much as the next person, but if it is replaced with something better I will be ok with it. My guess is it was too expensive to keep licencing the rights for those films and replace with an intellectual property they already own will be a huge cost savings for Disney. I do question the timing of the closing though. With Toy Story Land not opening until summer of 2018, what is left in the park? Tower of Terror, Rock and Roller Coaster, Toys Story Mania, Star Tours and a few shows. For close to $100 for a one day pass, it seems like a rip off to go there from 8/13/17 through summer of 2018.

What's going to happen to FastPasses that are after the closure date? I'm just going to keep mine because I am curious what will happen.
Nit sure if answerd. I got an email saying my FP replaced with muppets 3d. Great NOT!
