Great family vacations for summer?

I've been thinking of going to the Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg area of TN. We've never gone there but it looks like there is a lot to do. And you can rent a 2 bedroom luxury cabin for $200.

We have gone there every other year or so. We live in NKY so we can get there in 5-6 hours. Lots to do. There are lots of small amusement parks, Dollywood, outlets, lots of shows, hiking etc. We went to a great petting zoo too. They had the usual stuff and some more exotic animals like a Zebra and Kangaroos.

When I was growing up we went to the state parks in KY - Mamouth Caves, Natural Bridge, Cumberland Falls

What about Niagra Falls? Anyone go there? Would young kids enjoy it?

Funny story about the area, last year in North Conway there was a huge fire at a restaurant called Fadangle's. As we drove by (before it was burning) my DH said "Oh, look, that Fandangle's is still there." After we finished lunch (at Horsefeathers), we drove back on the same road, only to find Fandangle's was no longer there, it was burning to the ground! I tried posting some pics but they wouldn't show up. :headache:[/QUOTE]

Gee! It's a good thing that you guys chose to eat at Horsefeathers and not Fadangle's. :rotfl2:

I know it has been said, but Yellowstone is awesome. We spent a week there with a 6 month old, 3yo, and 6 yo. We stayed just outside the North East Gate by the Lamar Valley in the Silver Gate cabins. Apparently I can't post the link because I don't have enough posts. If you google "Silver Gate Cabins, Montana" it is right at the top.

We went at the end of June, it was beautiful! Of course, living in Colorado, we drove. I am not sure what you would do coming from Texas!

This is a great thread. I am getting tons of ideas for upcoming vacations. I think we will definatley try the Kings Island amusment park In Ohio. MY boys will love all the Nickelodean (sp?) stuff and characters there.

Thanks.

NYC may be ok for an older child but I think the kids may get bored there. Definitely go to the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. Pigeon Forge has plenty of stuff for the kids and there is Dollywood & Splash Country (Dolly Parton's amusement park). There are tons of stuff for the kids to do, shows, etc... Believe me this will be one of your kids favorite places to go. I took my family 2 years ago and my husband really liked it which shocked me. Gatlinburg is a few miles down like a mountain village and then you can discover the Smokey Mountains. They are building up alot and by the end of the year will have 3 new indoor waterpark resorts. The towns are so nice and the Smokie Mountains make for a really gorgeous backdrop. I dont know where you are coming from but we usually take the Blue Ridge Parkway from Virginia to TN and its so gorgeous!! Definitely check it out

well here in the midwest..we just rented a cabin at bennet springs state park in missouri and spent the week trout fishing...we had a blast

We are big campers and the best trip so far was Gatlingurg Tennessee! It is so beautiful there. The Aquarium was amazing! The kids loved it. There was the trolly that would pick us up right in front of our campground and take us anywhere in Gatlingurg. I want to go back!:cool1:

Ok, big camping fan here and im interested in the campground that you stayed at ..........please share!!!! We live in IN so a drive to TN is an easy day trip!

I thought Hershey was closed now?

Hershey Park is open this coming weekend for Springtime at the park. Then it officially opens in May.

Of course I am going to suggest Hershey Park, it's our 2nd favorite place to go with the kids.(I don't have to tell you all where our favorite place is!) Check out my sites for all the Hershey Park info you need:

This spring break we are trying Hilton Head, SC for the first time. I have heard wonderful things about it. We also are planning a few days after in Washington DC. It will be our kids first time there and having been before I know they will love it.

Being from NY I wouldn't suggest NYC in the summer, the spring and fall, yes and definitely the Christmas season.

I think a great city to visit in the summer is Boston. We love it there too. Great museums, history, great tours and restaurants and a fantastic aquarium. You could also visit Cap Cod and Martha's Vineyard from there.

A great BIG thank you for all the great suggestions! I have to print all this out now and study it!! I appreciate all your responses! Be blessed:cutie:

South Dakota!

So much more than Mt. Rushmore (which is nice though)--we spent ten days there and did not have enough time.
