Just a reminder that the Great Backyard Bird Count is coming up. Last year, I know several people posted about participating so just wanted to give a reminder. From the website:

"What is the GBBC?

The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are across the continent. Anyone can participate, from beginning bird watchers to experts. It takes as little as 15 minutes on one day, or you can count for as long as you like each day of the event. It’s free, fun, and easy—and it helps the birds. We'll be adding updated GBBC materials for the next count as they become available."

My 6th grade son came home with the paperwork for this last week from his science class. I haven't read anything much about it yet since I think it starts tomorrow. Is he suppose to look for birds? It is very snowy here now after an almost 2 day snowstorm and we really don't see too many birds.
I guess we will just try to watch and see.

You can just pick a window and watch 15 minutes or longer. I think you do give an indication of the weather conditions (cloudy, sunny, etc.) I typically have food out in a feeder by my window and get lots of chickadees, titmice and gold finches. Since you have snow, you might toss out some bread crumbs or sunflower seeds. Some times you just don't see many birds--sometimes you can't count them fast enough. We've done this for several years. I'm sure the counts will be skewed this year due to the blizzards. Hope you and your son have fun. Check out the website--lots of great information.
