Talked to DH's Cousin who is a COOK at one of the restaurants...here's what he explained to me as far as the gratuity....

the new union contract says 18% but Disney's dining plan says 15% so too bad for the CM...although the checks are MUCH MUCH higher these days so the CM's are getting their 18% indirectly...

He also told me that the restaurants are decreasing portion sizes to fit the budget...example, there are some desserts that are really HUGE and made for 2, but since the menu doesnt say FOR 2, they are decreasing the size to fit the 1 person...

Also, some things are being added to the " IT doesnt include" list...
check with the waitress when you order to make sure that everything you ordered will be covered by your dining plan!

I'm sure that this Dining plan is a PIA to most, but the savings alone has allowed us to go to Disney this year, so who can complain??? :flower:

No problem with reducing the dessert size, particularly if it was intended to serve 2, but they really should be reducing the price for the benefit of the guests not on the plan.

Do you have any examples of what extras are no longer being included?

I think the one particular example was a side of shrimp. One month they sold something like 28 and the next it was 800..lol. So in that particular case, sides of SHRIMP are not included.

A "side" of shrimp? Well that was just a silly idea in the first place! :)

Shrimp is not a "side" really -- it's a super-sizing of the entree. I suppose McDonald's had the term trademarked.

I have to disagree with the statement that the Dinining Plan was A PIA . I felt liberateed once i made my PS's. It was great to be able to walk in and get whatever we wanted. I cant fault Disney for changingtheir menu to accomadate this plan

I don't mind them down-sizing the portions, especially since I'm going solo, and am hardly able to finish meals.

I was actually surprised last week to find that many of the servers told us Disney added the non-alcohol specialty drinks to the plan at TS's. I figure they would just be restricting things, not adding more. I never expected to get the glow cube drinks or milkshakes but was offered them every time.
