I though this sounded interesting and will be attending the F&W festival. Is the grapefruit cake they serve at the festival the same that they serve at the Brown Derby? Also anyone that been there recently can you get this cake at Starring Rolls? Thanks for your help.

It HAS to be. BTW, where did you find that it would be an item of the F&W Fest?

I had the grapefruit cake at F&W Fest and it was great! Liked it so much, I went back for a second piece! I've never had the Brown Derby's grapefruit cake, but if it's the same, I better visit there sometime!

Funny this should come up in a thread. I just read the recipe in the latest Disney Magazine:

Grapefruit Cake
The Hollywood Brown Derby
Disney-MGM Studios

Cream-cheese frosting:
8oz cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup plus 2 tbsp sugar
3 pink grapefruit sections
1/2 tsp powdered gelatin
2 tbsp grapefruit juice
1/2 cup heavy cream

Blend the cream cheese and the sugar until smooth. Mix in 3 grapefruit sections. Dissolve the gelatin in the grapefruit juice and stir to mix. Heat the juice in a saucepan, then add to the cream cheese mixture. In a separate bowl, whip the cream to a soft peak. Fold it into the mix and refrigerate for about 1 hour.

Grapefruit cake:
3 cups flour
1 1/2 cups sugar
1 tbsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup vegetable oil
6 eggs, separated
6 tbsp grapefruit juice
1 tsp grated lemon rind
1/2 tsp cream of tartar
10 pink grapefruit sections

Heat oven to 350F. Sift the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt into a large bowl. Form a well in the center of the dry ingredients and fill it with water, oil, egg yolks, grapefruit juice, and lemon rind. Beat until smooth. In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites with the cream of tartar until stiff but not dry. Fold into mix.
Pour batter into 2 greased or non-stick 9-inch cake pans. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until cake springs back when lightly touched. Cool the cakes on a rack, then remove them from the pans.
Frost the top of one cake, then break up 2 grapefruit sections and scatter them on top of the fronsting. Top with the second cake and frost completely. Garnish with the remaining grapefruit slices.

Serves 6 to 8.

That cake is some of the best stuff ever! I had it last year at the F&W Festival. I can't wait to get another piece. I bought the recipe book but haven't ever gotten around to making it. Maybe that's a project for this weekend to get me more excited about the Festival! :teeth:

Does this cake taste like grapefruit?
Im not a big fan of the juice and wondered if the cake tasted similar.

Thanks!

Stacey, to me and I saw several others voice this same opinion, it tastes a lot more like lemon than it does grapefruit. It is very rich and creamy. Has just the right amount of tartness. So good! :)

I love the grapefruit cake at the Brown Derby, but must have it during the F&WF. Can't wait til next weekend - there goes my South Beach Diet!
