granite-what color would you want/do you have?

I like the more flamboyant colors with lots of movement. It seems everyone I know is going for uba tuba, which doesn't do much for me. But I understand that it's one of the less expensive varieties, so that's understandable.

For inspiration, check out gardenweb.com.

I just finished doing my kitchen....

The counter top is Giallo Venezino . I have the same cabinet in the powder room but used Kaishmir Gold and love that one too.

Another beautiful transformation! NAB, is that travertine or tumbled marble on your backsplash?

I love the dark cabinets- I can't say that enough!

Thanks I love it !

That is tumbled marble on the back splash.

Can't believed I lived without pot drawers for so long. That is my favourite thing in my kitchen.

I even have been keeping it clutter free too. I have also got curtains put up now too.

You aren't. I'm not a fan, either. It looks good enough. Fine for other people's kitchens. Just not my cup of tea. Also leather couches...not my thing.

I'm sure the granite fans would look at my counters and think, "don't much care for that." :)

Life is short. We should all do whatever makes us happy.

Ahh--I'm happy to find a kindred spirit. I'm anti-leather furniture, as well. ;)

Forget what's popular and go with what you like.
Best advice yet.

I've had granite twice - most recently in New Orleans. I only had a choice of two (redo of a 65 apartment building). I went with the lighter one.

Here's my reason which I am sure you do not have to worry about. I was worried that I would not be able to see a "bug" if one was on the black counter top. So far (3 years) I haven't had any but at least I know that for sure and not that I am just not seeing them. Something you have to be careful with in the deep South.

I have golden oak cabinets, stainless appliances (except for thr fridge since we're waiting for it to die before we replace it), brushed chrome hardward, hardwood floor, granite is a gray background with lots of flecks light green, peach and lilac in it. The "effect" of the granite from a distance is a stainless color. We liked it because it doesn't limit you to one color. Something like Uba Tuba makes your kithcen green. My granite bears a fairly close resemblance to the Violetta that someone posted above, except mine is a smidge less pinky purple, but with that same effect of the flecks.

Backsplash is tumbled marble...sort of a chalky white color, with glass tiles inset sporadically. The glass tiles are in diamond shapes and are basically dark gray, medium gray, light gray and a pale sage green....all those color tiles are mixed in one diamond.

It looks nice. My house is a pretty classic Cape, not huge...about 1800 SF, so I couldn't get really crazy with my kitchen...I am a proponent of renovating but keeping within the "scope" of my house.

we are looking at these two colors

or Uba tuba

those are the biggest remnant pieces they have at the shop I'm working with. I'm gonna go this week and look at them in persona nd see if there is a color I like better that can even be two pieces. I'm not picky about a seam since we still have to remodel the kitchen and this is just for now, not forever.

We added on to our kitchen 12 years ago, and we have uba tuba in that area. In the next couple of years, we will redo our entire kitchen to up date it. I will chose something lighter and more neutral. The uba tuba, while very nice, shows every bit of dust and it is harder to keep clean. Fortunately I only have it on a buffet type counter and on the divider that divides the work area from the breakfast area. It is pretty but shows everything.

I found a couple of so-so pics but you'll get the idea. :goodvibes This was before the back splash was done.

rentayeta-- love the different heights of the upper cabinets. Our ceilings were too low to do that.

Hadn't thought of that. The buffet in my dining room is slate topped and shows everything. We have cream tile right now and it's so forgiving.
Thanks for all the visuals and advice everybody!!! I now have even more to think about but it's a good thing.

Our house was already built... it has dark cherry custom cabinets and "Tan Brown" granite. With cherry hardwood floors. Beautiful, but dark. And the dark granite shows EVERY CRUMB... so if your family likes toast, stay away from dark colors! Double that if you have three blonde dogs like I do! Guests don't like to see dog hair on the countertop, but it just floats around!
If I could choose myself, I'd go with a lighter color. The creams with shots of brown and gold are old-world and lovely.

We are installing granite called Neptune Eyes.

It looks a bit like this:

I noticed that view also!! Absolutely gorgeous!

I love the light cabinets. I'm leaning to wood though. Light, not dark--I'll know it when I see it. I'm not a fan of dark kitchens. Well, dark anything, probably. I'd live in an all white house if I could. Well, white with puppy prints everywhere! ;)

These kitchens are beautiful even though they are not what I'd pick. It is the one thing I am very excited about in building a new house--the kitchen!

I know that picking cabinets, lights, countertops, flooring will be huge decisions. I'm sure I'll be stressed.

:thanks: I do love my kitchen.

Love the kitchen, but love the view out the window better! WOW!

 The view is nice. My DD's room is right above the kitchen and she has the best view out her bay window. :thumbsup2

Me too!!!!! One day I will see the Mts. up close and personal.
It is "on the list".;)

We used Maple and did a whirewash/paint over them. :)

I  pink granite, but then, I am from Texas. :) Someday, when I'm not feeling so broke, I'm putting granite counter tops in (we have so little counter space, it's definitely the right place to splurge) and I want PINK.
