This week we had an accepted offer on a SSR resale, waiting on ROFR! Reading on here to buy where you want to stay and we've enjoyed our prior SSR stays so it seemed like a no-brainer. But the clincher for us was because I'm an avid golfer and my wife loves the spa. Why we didn't buy in sooner and stay there all the time is beyond me. I completely forgot about the LBV golf course in favor for the Palm and Magnolia. But once we have our welcome home stay planned, I would like to become a DVC Golf Member. Just based off of looking at the map when we stay I'd like to stay at the Grandstand and hit the range every day in the very early mornings (before the wife and kid wake up) with a couple twilight rounds mixed in. Has anyone stayed at SSR and walked to the range? Any room recommendations or other golf related tips would be greatly appreciated! Once I have dates, I don't mind meeting up with fellow golfers for a round! Thanks!

SSR is one of our home resorts. While further from the parks, it is, at times, under-appreciated! We love the rooms at the Grandstand because (a) we’ve always had beautiful views overlooking the golf course, and (b) it’s conveniently located for both buses (first stop) and The Carriage House. It doesn’t hurt that in 20 years of DVC, the Grandstand at SSR was the only time I’ve ever been upgraded! (Family trip, 3 studios upgraded to three 1-BR’s.)

The walk over to the pro-shop/range is short. Depending on the building, it’s no more than 10 minutes. If you have tee times at LBV, they’ll also store your clubs until the day of your last tee time. The pro shop is located at the back of the carriage house.

The range at LBV is interesting... if you’ve used it you know what I mean with the water.

I do feel that many complain of long walks and long distances - almost exaggerating. We‘ve never found the walks at SSR (or so many other places, like the BWV infamously long hallways) to be bad. But then again, we’re very active and enjoy the extra exercise!

Also, congratulations on your new ownership!

Thanks for the reply! Once it all goes through I'm getting my DVC golf membership and going to the range before the rest of my family wakes up! I can't believe I didnt make SSR home earlier. The walks never bothered me either. We all quite active so we actually enjoy the time outside. If SSR is my home then LBV is my home course!

Another fan of SSR and the Grandstand area. When we stayed many moons ago the 1st time, SSR was very small, and not a lot of amenities. So we weren't overly impressed, and swore that would be our last stay there. DTD back then was in decline, fast forward to now, DS is on a whole new level. Even though DS isn't a draw like a theme park, it still has a nice draw for nighttime activities, so its a plus to me to be at DS for that reason. We love the Animators Pallete, which IMO, is the best QS any resort has to offer. The Turf Club Lounge is a great place to unwind the day, shoot a game of pool, and relax. Not loud like so many lounges are. Speaking of Grandstand, its our favorite spot in all of SSR. Away from the action a bit, but not so far that a quick walk will get you to the middle of it all. Very close to the golf course, we love watching the golfers in the AM while drinking a cup o Joe on the patio. And its a close walk to the range, club house, boat to DS, or a few steps more to DS if you choose. In other words we love SSR now!

I love the peacefulness of SSR. It's a nice break from the rest of the WDW craziness. We grabbed breakfast at Chip n' Dales Cafe the last time we were there. I was pleasantly surprised with their food! They make a pretty decent breakfast sandwich and breakfast burrito. If it's nice outside, it's a great place to grab a bite to eat and sit at one of the nearby tables.
