Grand Villa??

I'm sure this question has been asked before and I apologize if it has. We are taking extra family members with us to Disney. We belong at Boardwalk but would like to stay at an Old Key West grand villa. First of all, how many grand villas are there at Old Key West and how difficult is it to get from 7 months out? Thanks

I can't recall how many there are but I'm sure Rich will be by soon with the number. Depending upon when you are trying to book the GV it can range from difficult to just about impossible. The best strategy would be to call day-by-day to book the GV and to try the wait list if necessary. People have done it, so it's not totally impossible. However, I would have a "back-up" plan in mind, putting together a combo of studios and 1- or 2-bedroom villas.

There are close to 27 GVs at OKW. Isn't it nice that they don't have the insane point requirements of the BWV GV?

During some seasons, late Oct-Nov, early Dec, and a few others, you won't have a chance. There are some seasons that you do have a chance. You may want to try and trade your points with an OKW owner on the Rent/Trade board.

It is nice to have the cheaper point options at the okw, but we have found when we tried the BW GV, it was hard to go back to the okw.

BVC4us to answer your question, about 4 years ago, a grand villa at Okw WAS pretty easy to get at the 7 month window certain times of the year. Now it's pretty tough just about anytime. Even the slower times, with people selling their ressies on EBAy, they're pretty scarce. I didn't realize there were 27 of them. It makes sense to get the okw gv, being that it's only 14 more points than a two bedroom at times. It is a great suggestion about trying to get someone to swap points with you one year.If you need to swap okw points for BW, I'm sure you could find someone. Let me know next year if you're interested, Ours are used up for this year.

I think the orginal poster would need to swap BWV pts for OKW pts, that might not be nearly as easy. I agree with you, if the GV is only 14 pts more than a 2 BR when they are going they might as well go for the gusto! OKW is so often referred to as the resort where bigger is better, why not go for the GV!

Don't give up! We had to cancel a Grand Villa at OKW about 3 months ago.
I posted this information at the time, so I am sure some lucky person will be going in our place! There will always be cancellations, so just keep trying, or go on the wait list.

We managed to get five of the seven days we wanted for late this October. I came off the waitlist for the remaining two days because I liked the idea of those two nights in VWL instead, but maybe I would have got the whole week if I'd been patient!

You will LOVE the GV at OKW! We plan to use it again in 2004. I can't quite understand why DVC didn't put GVs in VWL and BCV, and they only put 5 in BWV. I think there are 26 or 27 at OKW. WE had 11 people in one a few years ago, and we didn't feel crowded at all. Of course, 4 of them were under the age of 12, but it still was a good test. The laundry certainly got a workout on that trip!

I think after you try the GV at OKW you may have a hard time going back to the BWV's.

We also own at BWV. For last holiday season we waitlisted for an OKW GV for the first week in December and got one by the middle of October. Just last week I called and switched from a 2 BDR at BWV to a GV at OKW for the third week in March of 2003 and was told there were still a few available. They really are wonderful units IMHO.
