GRAND OPENING - GRAND CLOSING (Florida)

Over 10 thousand new cases in FL today. That blows my mind. Now, if these kids go home and visit with their parents and grandparents, you'll see spread into the old age groups. Now, those visits will probably make more sense around Thanksgiving and Christmas, but I don't see the virus only sticking around in the lower age group.

that number is wrong from Worldometer . It’s about 8500 today from every other source

You trust Worldometer's numbers? They never corrected any China numbers. Just saying.

The other alternative is the John Hopkins dashboard. They're good enough to make decisions. Does your likelihood to go to WDW change if FL is seeing 8000 cases instead of 9000 cases a day? It's really about how we process these numbers. For AZ I look at the rate positive. According to the WHO, if it's over 5%, then that's bad.

You couldn't pay me to go to FL now. I can't believe how many people actually state they can't see the direction indicators on the ground because they are pushing a cart. You know many places are starting directional aisles now so look and you can look ahead of your cart and see the indicator. If you can't follow such a simple direction you are just an idiot.

I've been saying all along we reopened far too quickly. Restaurants and bars should be carry out only for the rest of the summer if not year, gyms should stay closed just as long. Barbers/stylists, tattoo places, boutiques, anything actually non-essential should still be closed. I guess in very rural areas with almost no outbreak the rules can be less strict but in and near cities stay the <expletive deleted> home.

But it didn't have to be this way - people just had to follow some simple rules to protect others - but the selfish jerks ruined it for everyone. The problem with saying "we reopened far too quickly" is that most people saying it either have jobs or have enough money to survive while we wait to flatten the curve again.

But there are many, many families - especially here in FL and especially single moms - that literally can't feed their families or pay the rent without their jobs back - they will be out on the street - and whose jobs do not allow working from home. Florida's unemployment system is broken - trust me, it's BAD. And is one of the stingiest in the nation when you can make it through all the roadblacks, 3-4+ hour phone delays, total system shutdowns and other disasters that discourage people from applying or defeat them when they do try.

How can we close businesses indefinitely unless we have a solution for those who need to work and have lost their jobs due to closure? The federal supplement ends in July. Fl unemployment isn't even enough to pay the rent - and Gov DeSantis already said he can't and won't increase it. European countries have dramatically increased funding to allow working adults who can't work from home to stay home. But that's a different belief system, tax structure and government than the US.

We need better safety nets.

nope it doesn’t but my state will stop me from going to Florida. 14 day quarantine when you get back.

Following some simple rules is exactly what we have to do, but evidently for some folks that is too hard to do.

I don't agree with you that most people that believe we reopened too quickly, have jobs or enough money to wait. I think most people that say we opened too quickly were seeing the large numbers of people that were protesting the stay at home orders, weren't wearing masks, didn't believe the virus was real and wanted the economy rolling at all costs.

If people don't follow the safety protocols, no one's going to be able to work for very long. If I'm at work doing my job and I'm subjected to many people everyday, co-workers and/or customers, some of us are going to get sick. How can my employer make any money and how can I, if I'm out sick? Perhaps my employer will have so many people out sick and for such a long time, that it's not economically feasible for that employer to stay open.

Yes, I know some people will have sick pay, but a lot, don't. It's not a simple answer, but our government should be able to figure something out, but they aren't even trying.

What is simple is wear a mask, wash your hands and keep at least 6ft from others.

You know if he had said that and set an example, whether he decided to wear it in private, his followers would have gotten on board.

If they had stated from the beginning when people were concerned about saying cloth masks would be a good thing, but instead they said that they weren't useful because they didn't want hospital supply to have an issue, yet the homemade cloth wouldn't have affected that. They botched the mask issue from the beginning.

They were afraid that everyone would buy up supplies that hospitals would need. And then they screwed up their mask messaging. People make mistakes.

Which is why I said they should have started right off with cloth, since cloth wouldn't have affected hospitals.

California just shut down bars in 7 counties and suggested several other counties take similar steps. I think we've figured this part of the puzzle out.....close down the stupid bars. And in states that don't have them open yet....leave them closed.

Did Florida mandate universal testing for all nursing home and long care facilities? My state did and we saw an increase in positive COVID19 testing but all were asymptomatic.
