GRAND OPENING - GRAND CLOSING (Florida)

Looks like NY deaths are way down and FL are up compared to a few months ago. July 19th is 18 for NY and 87 for FL.
Well gosh I would hope so just based on timing since their wave hit sooner. How do they compare in overall rate of death?

Overall death rate is what is we’re talking about. It could absolutely change before this is all over, but looking at numbers right now, it is a fact that NY/NJ are much higher than other states.88531019-BA01-4A70-B977-D45B4F4F45BA.jpeg

Because many of the people who got sick in New York were old, and most of the people getting sick in Florida are young.
Not arguing that. I was explaining what we were talking about to somebody who was trying to compare 7 day rolling average numbers, when what was asked was overall death rate.

I actually agree with you that FL is in trouble. I actually don’t mind the daily updates. It’s the editorial that usually follows that has gotten old. Nobody should be defending their state right now - we all horribly messed this up.

I'm an outsider and don't take it that way
I'm an outsider and I do.

"Why couldn't states do what NY did?" Maybe because other states weren't affected on the same timeline as NY?
"But NY has 'crushed the curve'. Other states should do what we did." Oh, send infected people back into nursing homes? Wait to shutdown until cases build up?
"Other states didn't pay attention to what happened to us." Sort of like NY did when other countries were having major spikes? So doesn't that mean other states are doing EXACTLY what NY did (ignore what had happened elsewhere)?

What is this? Why do you enjoy dumping on FL so much? It’s not even sharing numbers anymore - you really come across as gloating that a state may do worse than NY.

NY’s reputation is not undeserved in this. They made plenty of mistakes. As did every state in the nation. They have may have made different mistakes, but every state messed this up in their own way.
(And before anybody replies that NY didn’t have any warning, yes they did. They saw what happened in CA. They saw what happened in Italy. As in international hub, they had to know it was coming)

Why is it a competition? Do we really want to see states doing poorly? Why aren’t we rooting for each other?
I wonder more why she posts the daily figures when she doesn't believe the figures are correct anyway. And while she is perhaps not consciously bashing states which are doing bad. I do believe she enjoys the bad news in general. It gives her something to do. What can she add to the conversation if the figures were good?

And I find it amusing that she says to believe in science but doesn't think she has to back up her claims. In that respect she is very similar to governors she hates, she only listens to her own voice.

Ahem. Google Tapper eviscerates New York Governor. And I know of at least one disser that that has done the same..... Hmmmm. Who could that be. I totally forgot.
Eviscerates is maybe a bit of an exaggeration? He hasn't been disemboweled. At least not on the DIS. 😏

How can we compare New York's numbers to the current states being affected? New York was hit hard when all of this started when little was known about the virus. New York made some mistakes and the current states had the chance to learn from these. The sad thing is that a few states seemed to have learned very little.

How can we compare New York's numbers to the current states being affected?
Easy. Pick any category, cases, number of tests, % positive, # of deaths, cases/million, deaths/million, # in ICU, etc (there are a lot of numbers). Is one number larger than the other? There, you've compared them. ;)
