Just got off the phone with Disney reservations for the 4th time today....
The amazing customer service agent told me about "Grand Gatherings." If you have 8 or more people staying (not rooms, actual people), you can request a Grand Gatherings number. It's not a room block that will give a discount BUT it will have you and your guests in the same building, if not same floor. The only catch is there has to be one night of the rooms overlapping. One person has to call to make the original reservation and to obtain the GG number (407) WDW-PLAN. Everyone else calls that number and gives the GG number.
There are also some great perks:
There is a Character Breakfast just for GG "members" at Tony's Town Square
A Safari at Animal Kingdom, which she said is more personalized and goes much further out than the regular trip.
My personal favorite: International Dining & Desert at Epcot. There is a buffet dinner with foods from all the words, and then, a Desert Party during the fireworks.
I know the above aren't free, but for those trying to budget a DP and have 8 people staying on property, here is a way to possibly make both work
