Grand Gatherings

Anyone done any of the special Grand Gatherings events?

Which ones are good? We'll have grandparents, a single uncle and two families with pre-school age kids...

We did a grand gathering a three years ago and are doing one again in December. The fireworks cruise is wonderful and if you have a lot of people that want to participate in that, it really costs next to nothing per person. The safari at AKL is also excellent. The morning is supposed to be better than the evening because more animals are out in the morning. This next trip we are doing the Illuminations dinner and the evening safari and are excited about that.

Unfortunately, I found that the grand gathering information is a bit lacking. Disney really doesn't help you out much, its mostly left to you to inquire about and plan things. This time around we got a grand gathering packet from Disney, but the other party in our gathering did not (and they were the ones that called for the grand gathering number for our group).
