Grand Gatherings ??

Is it wise to plan a big trip through Disney as a "Grand Gathering"? I thought we might just all plan our own trips but request rooms close together. There would be around 15 or so of us, adults and children. Disney referred us to the Grand Gathering dept. It this a downfall or a benefit? Any experience?

I would plan as a Grand Gathering. If you do, they are supposed to guarantee your rooms will be close, if not connected. You can plan together online, as they give you all a Grand Gathering number to link all of your reservations together. If you are dining together, they will let one member of your party, who you determine, makes ressies for all of the party.
We are a Grand Gathering for November. I booked everyone's packages under different names. You just have to have everyone's address and ages, basic information. Then, they emailed each one of us with our own personal details. Each one of us is paying separately, too!
They also have some events that are offered ONLY to Grand Gatherings to make it a little more special for your group!

We had a Grand Gathering of 17 people that we booked through AAA. We stayed in 4 separate cabins at Ft Wilderness. Our AAA agent told us that booking as a Grand Gathering guaranteed that our cabins would be next to each other and they were. I don't see a downside to booking as a Grand Gathering.

We are going in April. I booked through a Travel agent and the others going with us went through AAA each booking their own packages. My SIL got a Grand gatherings # from the agent she worked with and gave me the # also. When it was time to make the ADR's, I gave the # to the CM taking our ressies. We don't have a problem if all the rooms are not near each other. So you don't all have to book together to get a GG #
