We are planning a grand gathering with 8 people. My mother in law will be in a ECV.I have two children with type one diabetes and one of them is mental handicapped. My question is will they give us a gac for us to use as a family. I know the limited is six but we are traveling with more than one person who needs it. I guest I need some guidiance. We used it last time but there was only six of us.I must say it was a life saver!I felt much better waiting in an area that was out of the sun for my kids!!Heat tends to bring blood sugars down fast!

I would suggest getting a GAC for each person with disabilities. Your mother won't need one as long as she is using the ECV in lines. You would need to explain what accommodations are needed for each person, not their diagnosis. If you look at the FAQ's section at the start of this forum there is a lot of info in there that you will find useful. I know that it explains GAC's better than I can.

The number the GAC is usually made out for is a total of 6 people (5 plus the person with a disability).
But, they can make exceptions in situations where there are just a few over the number. If you had 12 in your party, I would not expect a GAC issued for 12, but with only 8, they are likely to make an exception with a good explanation.

As was mentioned, the person using the ECV does not need a GAC to use it in line. Some attractions require a transfer from an ECV to a wheelchair (they will have one you can borrow at the attraction if she can't walk in line).

There are situations where there is not room for 8 people - some of the ride cars will hold only 6 passengers. For example, if you are boarding at the handicapped boarding area for Toy Story Mania, the ride car that is usually sent to that boarding area can be adjusted to hold a wheelchair. That ride car only holds 6 guests (it can hold six people in seats or one guest in a wheelchair, plus 5 people in seats).

Thanks for all the advice my concern was just keeping us together as much as possilble!!!
