We're thinking of doing a Grand Gathering next year and have a few questions.

1. What are the benefits of booking a Grand Gathering?

2. Are there discounts associated booking a Grand Gathering?

3. What has been your experience with them?

Thanks a bunch :flower3:

We will be a Grand Gathering as well and so far I can't find any 'real' info on this.

I'll keep watch on this thread.

We have booked two rooms at the POP july 12-19. Since we have 8 people that puts us into a GG. We are not taking part in any special dinners, pictures, tours, etc. It was just the way they had to book it. Now when I call to ask questions or pay on my rooms I have to go through the GG department. Kind of strange!!

As far as I know we don't get any extra discounts. I booked a AAA discount.

We booked our trip, then had the GG added when we decided we wanted to do the MK Fireworks Voyage (That was worth getting the GG # IMHO).
I still made reservations for dining, etc through regular channels.

You only need the GG if you are going to do a GG experience, I don't think there were any other benefits.

allears.net has some reviews, I just another thread here with some info as well...
Book early, since my SIl just now said they would take us up on the offer (free studio), evrything for GG events is booked up during our stay!
You can book at 180 days out...

We are booked for a Grand Gathering in August. As best I can tell, the only 'perks' we have access to are:
1. The Wishes fireworks voyage
2. A character breakfast at Tony's Town Square
3. An Illuminations package that includes special seating for Illuminations and either dinner or a cocktail hour (can't remember which)
4. Sunset Safari at AK that also includes dinner

Then, as someone mentioned previously, all calls should go through the GG phone line. Though I made my ADR's through the regular dining number. :confused3

The perks are Disney will gladly take more of your money! lol

We didnt get much other than help with dinner ressies for a large party. None of the GG events appealed to our group.

Hi everyone, we just got back from Disneyworld Feb 2nd, travelled with another family and booked our trip through a travel agent as a Grand Gathering. The reason we did this was we wanted to make sure we were given connecting rooms at Pop and we participated in the Safari Celebration Dinner at AK. Although the perks are not many, it does help booking through the Grand Gathering Dept. for dinner reservations so you know everyone will be eatting together. If you have any questions, just ask away and I hope I can answer them for you ;)

Can anyone give more details (price, etc.) about each one of these events? What is special about the character breakfast? I'm clueless here:confused3 , so any info would be appreciated!

I would like to know more also. We want to do one of those for after the wedding.

Our family did a Grand Gathering last summer and it was the most disorganized and confusing time we have ever had with any of our trips. We have been to Disney 49 times in which one year...2002 to be exact we had 49family members travel to Disney together. That year none of our reservations got mixed up, wrong info put with wrong families and were able to book all our ADR's together without any problems whatsoever....Not so with Grand Gathering last summer. ugh!

A Grand Gathering is just a way for Disney to be able to block off rooms in the same general location...not even side by side. A Grand Gathering is also a way for Disney to help book meals for everyone to attend at the same time.

We were able to take part in an Illuminations Dinner and Dessert Party...the dinner itself was horrible, the so called show was horrible. The Dessert and location of the VIP standing area to view Illuminations were great though...right out front of the Odyssey Building...patio area down by the lake. The bad part of this night besides the actual dinner and so called show..."come on Disney you can definitely do better than this show!" was that they had the reservations for our family in the wrong name which really ticked my parents off since they paid for the whole crew to attend and get this...they lost my parents tickets so they couldn't even join us for the dinner, but yet they were the ones that paid for everyone's dinner in advance.

Our room locations were great, however, they weren't able to book the only 3 rooms we reserved side by side. No big deal, but I find it odd they couldn't do 3 rooms side by side, but yet in 2002 before Grand Gatherings we were able to get a whole floor at Wilderness Lodge reserved. Also, they had my parents room reservations in the wrong name as well and because they weren't on the list the guard had they weren't going to let them through until we figured out what name was on the list when we first arrived to check-in.

We were offered other things we could do...but it was extra money. We decided not to do the extra's for just Grand Gatherings because we had plenty of other things we enjoy doing without paying extra money.

So, it all boils down to this....No discounts whatsoever, they will offer events you can do as a Grand Gathering but it costs extra money some are worth the money others aren't, they state it helps them to book rooms side by side or in the same location and easier for them to make ADR's for the whole crew to dine together.

That's our families experience with Grand Gatherings. We won't be doing it again. We have had better luck in the past with us all booking our rooms and such separately and telling the CM to make a notation on the reservation the other family members names traveling together.

Good luck!

Each event is a different price. The Illuminations Dinner and Desert Party cost about $60 per person. We should have gone with the fireworks cruise...it's a pirate cruise looking for Peter Pan...they take you out on Bay Lake, watch Wishes and at the end of the cruise you meet Peter Pan. If I remember correctly this was about $25 per person...much better time and deal than the Illuminations dinner.

I can't remember the cost to the other two events, but they were cheaper than the Illuminations Dinner and sounds like a better time would have been had. Can you tell that we didn't care for the dinner? LOL The show was a lady around 60 years old who talked through her nose and dressed up like a Genie and some guy as a DJ. Disney is so creative and this is what they came up with??? The food wasn't very good at all. The only really good thing about the whole night...several hours of waste...would be the VIP viewing area of Illuminations and the deserts. They were delicious!

LOL We actually had fun at this party. We hooked up with another group that we didn't even know to get a GG #. My kids had a great time dancing with the characters and doing the conga line with them. We all liked the food.

The lady was "Aunt Roz" who I believe does a show at Please Island.
