Do you need to have grand a gathering number in order to make ADR's for a group of 12? Can I just call and make an ADR? What benefit does it give me to get a number, if we only plan on eating together 3-4 times over the 2 week period? Sorry, I've just never understood this program. Thanks!!

You do not need a Grand Gathering number to make ADR's...however for a group that size you can't use the regular Disney Dining line. You have to call Group Dining at 1-407-939-7707.

I arranged a couple of meals for my group of 15 through that number, and no Grand Gathering number was required.

You don't have to have a Grand Gathering number to book ADRs unless you plan to do a Grand Gathering event (highly recommend the Tony's Breakfast or the Safari Dinner).

Also it depends on the restaurant if you have to call Group Dining or not. I booked almost all of our 13 person group ADRs last December through the regular dining number. The only ADR that I had to go through Group Dining was for Flying Fish.

Is the Group Dining the same as the Grand Gatherings number? I used them for making our ressies for our party of 8. However, they couldn't get us one large table at Cap'n Jacks. We had to get 2 tables of 4. Could Group Dining fix this? This is my first (and probably only) time using Grand Gatherings. Thanks!

We're doing California Grill, Brown Derby, Crystal Palace, and Safari Breakfast (Tusker House) with all 12...then a number of times we'll have 8.

You don't need it but when you need to make a ress that's all you have to give them . You won't have to get into every detail as to who everybody is where they are staying. I done it with a party of 15 it was great!
Call Disney and they can explain everything to you.

Not every restaurant is actually able to accommodate large parties at one table, no matter what. Group Dining can tell you which restaurants you can have everyone seated at one table (and usually that means and ADR either very early or very late) and those that can only take larger parties at more than one table.

Not always true. I only had to provide my own name and phone number when booking my ADR's...I didn't need a ressie confirmation number at all, and didn't have to provide locations for everyone in the party.
