Our group of 10 attended this event at Epcot on January 7, 2008. We were very excited about this meal, and being on the DDP, we used 2 TS credits to do it.

Let me start with the only good thing: We did get a nice view of Illuminations. There was no seating -- for some reason I thought there would be -- but the view was great and we didn't have to stake it out.

I would highly discourage anyone from this "dinner" event. First of all it is expensive, and the money would be better used at a myriad of places.

Second, the food was not good. Actually, the noodles they served were okay, but were lukewarm at best. Every single dish was almost cold. I had high hope when I saw them approach with a brand new container of spring rolls ... they were barely warm just like the rest.

Here is what I can remember that they served: Penne Pasta with alfredo sauce, spring rolls, fried rice, sweet and sour chicken, make your own fajitas, refried beans, a salad and fruit plate were on the table, bread sticks (very bad), Lasagna. There was more, but it is not coming to me. It was all barely warm and not very good.

The third reason was the service. Now the tables were all set with salads, fruit and ice water when we arrived. All the server had to do was bring us a drink. Maybe they were understaffed, but if that was the case, management should have been out helping. We saw our server after we had all finished salads, and had made a trip to the buffet. The first thing she wanted to know was how we were paying and to surrender our cards immediately. Then she wanted to know about gratuity. Now I had read the online 2008 DDP brochere before coming. It said that gratuity was included in this meal. I pointed this out, but she said it had changed, so I believed her.

Eventually she took our drink orders. Everyone continually went the buffet and we still had no drinks. Pretty soon everyone was done, and there were no drinks. I finally went to find someone, and when I got back, she was there with drinks. (I forgot to mention that before this, having drunk our glasses of water long before, my sister in law finally commandeered a pitcher and re-filled our glasses. There was no offer of re-fills, and we were all finished with our meal. The server brought the checks and of course the mandatory 18% gratuity. My sister-in-law could take no more at that point. When she saw that the gratuity was around $20 for each couple, she got a manager. We nicely explained that we had had no service and should not pay that kind of money. She said she would fix it ...I will be waiting to see the bill when I check out.

Now my husband and I were discussing it later -- sure it was expensive, but you are paying for the show seats as will. Then he pointed out that we had the same kind of thing for the Fantasmic Package at Mama Melrose. This was much cheaper, had the show seats, and had great service and fantastic food.

Could it have been an off night? For the service, maybe. But the food was definitely not worth even a CS meal...

Thanks for listening to my rant. If you are considering this as a GG event, considering taking yourself to a different place. I could name 15....

Thanks for the review - sorry you had such a disappointing experience.

Oh no! This is what my parents really really want to do to celebrate their 50 th anniversary while we are down there! What to do, what to do... Anyone else have an experience here? I don't want to tell them no based only on one bad experience. Thanks, feel free to PM me!

When we went, we had a much better server by the sound of it, but I would have to agree about the food and the lack of seating. The dessert buffet at Illuminations was nice, but the dinner itself surprisingly lacking compared to most WDW meals. The kids enjoyed dancing with Minnie and performing in the little show during dinner, but STILL had to struggle to see during Illuminations as it was all standing.

We have also done the Peter Pan Family Fireworks Cruise Grand Gathering. It does not have a meal included but was only 20 or 30 dollars per person. I enjoyed it a lot more, but was expecting a dessert buffet like at the Illuminations GG. Nope, prepackage cotton candy, cookies, and chocolate coins! lol.

I believe you are right about the tip being included in that meal. I could be wrong but I am going to check on it now. I really think I read it also. It is really not acceptable to have spent 2 credits for bad food and had bad service also. Please let us know how it turned out.

Thanks for your review! I hope we will someday get a Grand Gathering Board here on the DisBoards so those of us who are planning or have gone as a Grand Gathering will have one place to go to find info, tips, stories and reviews. Thanks again for your review. No seating and run-of-the-mill counter service type of food? We will cross that off of our list for our next Grand Gathering.

Thanks for your review. We always have a grand gathering group when we go to WDW, but the prices they charge for their GG events do not seem worth it. But I still always consider them and had considered the dinner you reviewed. I'll write that off my list now and won't worry a bit that we are missing anything.

Thanks for the review ~ Shame that you had such a disappointing experience.

Thanks for the review, sorry it turned out to be so disappointing. :guilty:

I went to look at the 2008 DDP brochure and it does say "Gratuity Included" for this dinner -- even on the DDP. However, they were making everyone pay anyway.

Luckily, that day in Epcot, I was approached by a survey person who asked for my e-mail and asked if I would take a survey when I got home. It was all about my experience at Epcot that day, so I brought up my concerns. Maybe it will do some good. I left no room for doubt about how I felt about that event, you can be sure.

We were going to do this for our Grand Gathering, but I don't think we will now.

Maybe the Safari Dinner at AK would be better?????

Our GG of 8 + dd 1, is headed to wdw in July. I've schedule the fireworks voyage, but I'm having second thoughts because of dd 1. I know my ds 4 & ds 7 will LOVE it, but I'm concerned about being stranded with dd 1. Also, the prices have increased to $43.99 adults & $24.99 children. Is it worth it?

Thanks!:confused3
