Grand Floridian Update

I can't imagine that the extra bathroom reduced sales. It encouraged us to add on at BLT since BCV just had the 2 bathrooms in the 2 bd. Once Kidani had the 3rd bath we thought they would continue...

But Aulani didn't have the extra bath.

I don't need another tub. I don't want an extra stand up shower. I just want another toilet!

Yea, at least an extra 1/2 bath wouldn't be bad.

You actually think the extra bathroom reduced sales?

Personally I wouldn't say that it reduced sales but I have to wonder if it did anything to increase sales.

It was a good talking point. But was it really the tipping point for a purchase?

Would DVC have lost any sales if BLT, AKV or VGC did not have that extra bathroom?

I like the layouts of the older resorts better than the layouts at the newer resorts. I'm sure if I were in a larger group...I would really like the extra bathrooms.

The xtra bathrooms sold BLT and AKV for us as well.....we were traveling with 5-6 people for quite awhile and having the xtra bathrooms REALLY saved time with everyone getting ready.

Looking at total points, I do think it likely did. Some will say they would never have bought without the option and that's likely true for some but not for most. What it will do for resorts without it and the extra occupancy, is to force many to a 2 BR that would have been able to squeeze by with a 1 BR otherwise thus requiring them to buy more points.

Well I guess that is possible, and it's hard to argue with DVC's success. I do agree VGF will sell out either way, but also think 50 years could have absorbed the cost pretty easily-either in purchase price or dues.

As for needing to buy more points to get the extra bath-hard to say if it turns someone away or brings more buyers. Why add sleep chairs to resorts then? Would think WDW would want more bodies in the rooms to spend more money, esp since they will sell the points and collect the dues regardless.

I guess in the end its just seems this of all WDW resorts should have had the extra luxury-then scale back going forward.

I think the sleeper chairs would have had more to do with that than the bathrooms. But I grew up in a house with only 1 bath so it's not as bothersome to me but sleeping options would influence me a bit.

Just a guess but maybe they think those in the market for a more luxurious resort also like the luxury of space and would be more inclined to book a 2BR rather than have people sleeping in the living area. Does anyone know if the 1BRs will include a sleeper chair? I can't remember what was reported from the member meeting back in December when floor plans (with furnishings) were shown.

It might be that DVD's research shows that the number of bathrooms is not as important as other factors to most members. Members seem not to have any issues booking one bedrooms at OKW, BWV, BCV, VWL, SSR, or even AKV-Jambo House even though their one-bedroom accommodations have only one bathroom.

On our first stay in a Kidani 1BR we ended up using the extra bathroom as storage space. I was dismayed at the lack of closet space at Kidani, especially compared to BWV or OKW. There was a very sticky high chair in the master closet so I moved it to the 2nd bathroom. We like to unpack so we stored our suitcases in there as well.

Maybe but even the 2BR's would have 3 bathrooms instead of 2-seems more luxurious to me. Course we have young women getting ready so may be skewed.

All walk in closets should have a shower/sink/toilet IMO. ;)

The reality is that this is a vacation home, not a full time home. Most can live without the extra bathroom for 5, 7, or 10 days.

"They may miss it but they can live without it", quote was how it would of went down in the meeting at Disney to cut construction and maintenance costs.

Dues pay to have the bathroom cleaned and to repair or replace any maintenance issues.

Well I guess I'm in the minority. The extra bath went from too expensive for VGF, to fewer bath's sell more points, to fewer baths is actually more luxurious, to staying at VGF you should be able to live without it. I guess I can't argue with those points.

The other component for GF is that space is at a premium. They've already ended up with less villas than originally advertised it appears, likely due to the 4 BR villas. As I noted before, I think the problem is that they did them twice, not that they are not there for GF. From a business and resort model I think it was a bad idea because I think it encourages people to stuff the villas which I feel is bad. To me 2 people is a studio, 3 a 1 BR and 4 with 3 teens/adults generally a 2 BR.

So, I have a question. Based on the official filing, is the official name of the resort:

The Villas at the Disney Grand Floridian Resort (VGF)

or is it

The Grand Floridian Resort Villas (GFV)

?

:lmao:

The Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and thus the abbreviation will be VGF unless, of course, someone just wants to call it GFV.

You aren't in the minority. I want the extra bath and have a hard time booking anywhere that doesn't have it. I would probably stay at VGF 1-bedroom if it were just DH and I, but if DD goes, I would choose BLT.
