Grand Floridian shouldn’t allow non hotel guests

DH and I stayed at GF last December. Lobby was crowded so I understand OP, but the vibe is of excitement and joy and we found it very enjoyable. We were able to get some gorgeous photos of the house and tree in the lobby returning to the hotel after midnight from a MVMCP event.

The original poster did not exclude disabled individuals; they simply suggested that those inconvenienced by the monorail should walk. However, you also dismissed the issue by saying disabled passengers should "wait their turn like everyone else," ignoring the fact that Disney does provide priority boarding for those requiring assistance. I pointed out both of these issues because neither of you acknowledged them.
The OP also did not specifically INCLUDE disabled people, I assumed MOST people that have ever been to Disney know Disabled and wheelchair/scooter users automatically get priority boarding as long as there is a disabled spot free on the bus, monorail or boat.

Suggesting people should “just walk” is dismissive and overlooks the needs of guests with disabilities or mobility challenges. Many people choose resorts like the Grand Floridian specifically because of its monorail access to the Magic Kingdom—a key convenience and a necessity for some. Telling them to “just walk” ignores the importance of accessible transportation and the thought that goes into selecting a resort based on individual needs. For those who rely on the monorail, it’s not a luxury—it’s a vital part of their ability to enjoy their vacation.

Disney doing a better job of providing the guests of GF with buses and larger boats to get to MK and Epcot due to the overcrowding of the monorail is definitely a very valid point.

Someone who makes a choice to stay at GF during the holidays when they know that Disney has the gingerbread house there to draw in visitors shouldn’t be surprised that it’s crowded.

Then they’ll complain it takes too long to get around to MK. Why should they pay all that money & have to make 3 other stops before they get there. 🙄
Yeah, that is 100% not the case. Look, it’s obviously that there are more people who stay at SSR, OKW, AKV, POP, All Stars, etc. than there are at GF.

So obviously there are more people who could care less about the experience of people staying at a resort that they are not staying at. That doesn’t mean that it’s OK for Disney to all an environment exists that looks anything like some of the pictures posted in the Grand Floridian owners thread.

If it is inside a park, a park admission ticket is required. If the photographer is at a resort that is open to the public, or Disney Springs anyone can use the photographer.

Why though. Magic kingdom is private property and so if gf

Try point is there is no legal requirement to let Joe off the street get his photo taken

That’s only because Disney allow everyone access but they are. 100% amenities of the resort

They are not and Disney does not promote or advertise them as such. The gingerbread house is not built for GF guests.

It’s built for all WDW guests at the location of the GF…that is big difference.

You can call a chair an amenity if you want but it doesn’t make it as such when it comes to how those are defined in the travel industry.

We certainly don’t tell our clients you are getting a chair as an amenity at your resort when you book it.

Here is my question…when you decided to visit WDW, and then buy DVC, were you aware that Disneys resorts are open to the public?

If so, then you made a choice to visit a hotel and resort complex that does not consider its lobby and grounds for the exclusive use of the guests staying there.

It’s really as simple as that.
Sure but now I’m advocating for a change to that policy

In California, they were having issues with non-Disney resort guests, Disneyland hotel guests, and Pixar Place guests using the exclusive Grand Cal entrance to DCA.

So, what did they do? They gated the walkways and added security to tell people they could only go into the Grand Cal lobby from the main entrance if they are guests at GC. They also opened a separate pathway right by the DVC wing at Grand Cal with another security gate to DCA exclusive to anyone staying at any of the 3 Disney resorts.

Now, people can still overrun the Grand Cal lobby by exiting DCA into the resort or by entering through Downtown Disney…. but they at least added options to alleviate some of the congestion.

So YES, Disney told paying guests of the Disneyland Hotel and Pixar Place that they could NOT just waltz over into the main Grand Cal entrance to use it as a cut through to DCA in the mornings. That is a benefit for paying guests of GC and VGC.
This. Not perfect, but it's an attempt. Now do GF.

Fine but do you say you get the gingerbread house?

No there isn’t. However, the OWNER has said Joe CAN come in, get his pictures taken, walk around, buy a treat (or not) & spend as much time as he wants. Until the OWNER announces otherwise, Joe Public can come & go as he pleases. To keep insisting otherwise is just being argumentative.

I’m genuinely curious, why does Disney place all of their large gingerbread displays exclusively at the Deluxe resorts, but not at the Value or Moderate resorts?

I get it because it’s there…not because I am a GF guest.

Just like I don’t consider being able to shop at Basin as an exclusive right for me as a GF guest.

That’s where we differ. If something has been defined by Disney as an attraction open to all, then where I am staying is irrelevant.

Ever see the price of that gingerbread they are hocking?
