Hi All
havn't posted anything for a while, been busy with decorating :crazy2:
Hope someone can help.. we are staying at the Grand Floridian for 5 nights and are trying to decide if its worth upgrading our room before we go? or can we do it when we check in and get a better deal, we go the end of August will the rooms be limited? we have a garden view in the main building, what kind of view can we expect, and is it worth changing to a lagoon room.
Thanks
Debbie

If the cost isn't an issue for you, I would upgrade to Concierge. We stayed in a Concierge room 18 months ago and had a view of the dock area with Cinderella's Castle in the distance. It was very quiet and just a step from the Concierge Lounge.

It was wonderful getting a glass or two of champagne and a plate of desserts and watching Wishes from our balcony.

Great question Debbied, I would love to know the answer to your question too. We booked 7 nights GF in a lagoon view room, booked last May for Nov this year. since they have added a MK view room only problem is that Virgin don't know anything about it and can't offer that type of room! :confused3 we are hoping to upgrade from lagoon view to Mk upon arrival.

As with most people cost does come into it, but...., this is an added extra to main holiday (1st time on site and if we were to do it again would probably choose a moderate hotel) I am fussy about hotel rooms and do not want to be disappointed.
Also it has cost alot of money, I would rather spend a few more pounds than end up looking at a scraggy bit of land or worst still a parking lot!!:confused3
I have posted this on the Resort Site and so far it seems that the main building does not have a garden view only - need to check out my booking.
I would be happy with a nice garden view and a balcony or a lagoon view, anything else would be a bonus.
Lisa when we get back I will email you if you like and let you know more details or I may do a trip report so I can bore the pants of everyone :rotfl2:

Debbied, I would really appreciate a message about your room after your trip. To be honest I really want a balcony and to be able to see the fireworks! Have a fantastic trip. Looking forward to the trip report.

We are there the same time as you and have a garden view room. Last Feb we were upgraded to a lagoon view for free.

I am also interested in the cost of conciege when you check in. I personally am not bothered about view but would like a dormer room.:thumbsup2

Upgrade before you go then you are met at the entrance and escorted to the Concierge lounge for check-in so no queuing!

I have phoned WDW UK and we only have a garden view, not in the main building like I was told, :sad2: at least I know now rather than be disappointed at check in.
Concierge sounds great... but I am to tight to pay an extra £1320 for a 5 night upgrade. A Lagoon view is only an extra £210 for the 5 nights so if we do anything it will be this. Lisa, as we booked direct they were quoting per night prices for all rooms including the M.K (which was £153 per Adult per night) so I don't know how you will get on as you are booked with Virgin. There are a couple of good threads on the Disney Resorts Forum specifically about the G.F especially the FAQ although long, (didn't read all of it:rotfl: ) has put my mind at rest about rooms. :goodvibes
jtlover when do you go? we fly on the 29th G.F for 5 nights then transfer to The Buena Vista Palace Downtown.
Thanks for all your advice
Debbie

hi,

we have stayed at the GF before, all the rooms are amazing, really great quality and views. we had a standard garden view, but it is the GF so there are no Bad views as such.

if you dont want to pay the upgrade, then you can watch from the bar upstairs or if you have children from the restaurant, or simply walk down to the pier area where the boat takes you across to the magic kingdom and watch from there. also as a bonus the music that plays for wishes (evening fireworks) is played over the speakers so you get a great effect

GF is a great hotel !!!

I stayed in a standard room last year at the Grand Floridian, for me the upgrade to concierge was not worth the extra money, compared to the dining plan the value of concierge is dire IMHO. The room we stayed in had a view of the monorail, we were on the top floor (fifth), slightly above the height of the monorail and for me personally this was the best view possible as I would rather look at the monorail going past than at the castle any day though not everyone would, how deep your pockets are is probably the answer as to where anyone stays and to be in the Grand Floridian theres a pretty good chance your not scrimping and saving to get a trip to Florida given rooms start at around a couple of hundred pounds a night.
