Which building at the Grand Floridian has the best standard garden rooms? I am looking to request the quietest and most romantic building possible for my honeymoon. How far in advance can I make this request or do I have to wait until I arrive at the hotel? Does anyone know if a dormer room would also be better to request for romance and privacy than a normal standard room?

The dormer rooms are pretty, with vaulted ceilings, but the balcony is enclosed, like this:

As you can see, you cannot see out the railing, you have to go stand there to view the resort. This might make it more private, though.

Whenever anyone asks about the best garden view room, I always answer with this - it depends on where you want to be, the rooms are exactly alike.

If you want to be near the main building and beach pool, request Big Pine Key; if you'd like a pretty view of the main building and the courtyard pool, near the boat dock, ask for Boca Chica; if you want to be near the courtyard pool, marina and boat dock, Conch Key is a good choice; if you'd like to be near the bus stop and Gasparilla's, request Sago Cay.

There's a GF map on the first page of the FAQ, here: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2427062 On it, you can see that Sago Cay is further away from the action than the rest of the buildings, so that might be a good choice. You would have either a marina view or a view of the monorail line; that view looks over the brushy area behind the building, but the monorail passes over it.

You can call DRC and add your request to your reservation now. When you check in, I'd ask if your requests were met, and discuss your room location again.

ETA: - there are some great photos on the FAQ of dormer rooms and their views. On page 66, ancestry has posted some photos, post #987; on page 71, mouseturtle posted photos, post #1063.

Enjoy your planning, congrats on the wedding!pixiedust:

Thank you so much for such a detailed and thorough response. You have given me so much to think about. I will probably ask for a dormer room because it is slightly more private and on a higher floor. I really appreciate you including a picture. It gives us a better Idea of what we can expect.

I heard the Sago Key was quieter with less children and could be slightly more romantic.

Take Care.

I don't think I would say that Sago Cay is the best choice. First, the rooms at GF are much more soundproof than the Mods or Values. Once in your room you hear very little outside noise. I stayed in Sago Cay and each morning I was awakened by trucks making deliveries. Every time they backed up you heard that annoying beeping. Also you could constantly hear the monorail and all the workers coming and going in the a.m. I have managed to stay in every building at the GF over the years and Sago Cay was my least favorite and I'm pretty easy going about where I stay. I really liked Big Pine Key, it was quiet and close to both pools and the main building and a short walk to Gasparilla's. No matter what building you are in, the standard rooms are all the same layout and same size. If you get a dormer room that layout is different, a little smaller with no day bed and an enclosed patio. Hope that helps.
