Grand Floridian at $200 a point?

:thumbsup2I think all of the DVC's have to be bashed here. It's an initiation rite of passage. I cannot wait to enjoy the ambiance of the resort, them walk back to our room. Even DH is with me on this one, & I'm the main force behind our membership!

Bobbi, are you going to buy at GFV?

I agree....It's kind of a jealousy thing. I suspect GFV will be very nice, and probably more to my liking than BLT (which doesn't appeal to me at all), but I wont care if I don't have enough points to ever stay there. That's more because we aren't big MK people though.

Yes, we will buy some, just for DH and myself to stay. We both love the ambiance of the GF around the holidays. We're at a certain age, we know what we want and feel "now is the time!"

Maybe not bash but give it a break. Alot have negative words about it. If you "would never pay those prices" then thats fine. Alot will. Everyone keeps talking about buying resale for so much of a savings but likeI said in my OP its not GFV. So I guess I should have not said bash but really in other threads it is kind of getting bashed. But like Bobbi said. I know its what we do with a new resort.
I'm sorry but there is NO bashing in this thread and nothing I recall that's in anyway inappropriate. Honest statements that many think DVC is over priced at these prices is not only appropriate in this thread, it'd imperative. That someone doesn't like the location or resort is also appropriate. I realize that some who paid higher prices may take this personally but the fact remains that there are realities of the situation and price and potential overpayment are among them.

There will be a model set up. When I was at SSR in May, the building near the preview center that has the Aulani Model also held the start of the GFV model. The CM that showed us around said she had not been allowed in, and that they were working on it, had to change some things, and were working more on the furnishings.

Maybe she was more reliable than the bus drivers...

I'm sure we will all see it at SSR soon. I hope!

We won't be buying at $200 per point, I'd just wait for the resales to start (I have a feeling there will be quite a few a year or so after opening). Otherwise, we'll probably try to find a small (100-150) BWV or VWL resale.

Really think so?

I don't see very many Aulani resales...although the target audience is quite different.

:thumbsup2 We love GF so much we eat at Narcoossee's and walk around GF just for the ambiance. It's usually my favorite evening of every trip.

I can't spend $200/pt though. :crazy2: Those points better come with some exclusive perks.

I hope that's not the cost.

Okay, that's too rich for my blood....I'll wait to see if I can book at 7 months, and then go see how the other half lives. :rotfl: Or I'll be slumming at the Boardwalk :cool2:

That's in line with my expectations. One BLT price increase between now the the start of GF with the base price being the same for both. Then another price increase within a couple of months of the start of sales.

Exactly.

That would be unprecedented for DVD to start selling a new resort at the same price as a resort which is mature and about to sell out.

Its also unprecedented for any project launch that I've ever seen. Historically the start of any project has the lowest pricing (excluding the tiny fraction of founders suffering from "me first" syndrome).

The risk alone for such pricing would make any business person shudder. The thought that they miss the market and would have to retreat pricing significantly would be so disastrous you would be forced to clean out top mgmt.

I'll stay with $140, not being shocked if it starts at $120. Start at 140 for founders, then drop quickly into 130's with incentive pricing. If sales are strong the first few months, go very quick into 150's.

We're talking list price excluding incentives, at least I am.

I hope you're right. If incentives bring it down to the $120 or $130 range, we'd seriously consider a direct purchase add-on. Considering the longer contract, I could see GF points being reasonably worth 2x the price of BW resale.

I think the timeline is just a little short ... only one I watched was VGC resales, which started being available about the time the resort was selling out in the fall of 2010, when they started selling direct in spring 2009, so it was ~18 months after. There have never been a lot of contracts avail resale due to the fact that VGC is a smaller resort, but they've been regularly off-and-on available since that fall. Again, different audience.
Kind of curious when BLT contracts started being avail on the resale market given that they started selling direct points in fall of 2008, that would probably be the best comparison.

Personally I'm just hoping the GFV existence might cause BLT resale prices to drop, as I haven't been yet but of any of the properties in the World that I've looked at, it appeals the most so far. After our trip this year and the way DLR AP prices are running vs the WDW prices maybe I'll be able to talk DH into a Florida contract ... :rolleyes1

Not sure what the plus of owing at GF would be as we already own BLT which is a walk away from MK and a monorail ride from Narcoses...er, GF :p
