Grand Floridan vs Beach Club Resale

My husband and I are 39, and we just added another BCV contract because we love staying there. 2042 is a waaaays away still. 😉 We buy where we want to stay, and we don’t worry too much about 20+ years from now. Purchase wherever you will love staying!
We agree! Stay where you love bc it’s very difficult to book where you don’t own.

I just wanted to say that I love "Happiness 101"! Never thought about it before, but that is absolutely, positively Disney to me!

I'm in my sixties, and bought bc and bw when my kids were early teens. Now that they have their own obligations and I mostly travel alone, I'm truly happy I bought where I did. As an adult travelling without children, I'm less likely to spend a lot of time in Magic Kingdom, more in Epcot. When the kids were little, before I became a DVC person, we always went to Epcot for dinner after the craziness of the park day. Its not that I don't like the other parks. It just became a habit. So when I discovered the Boardwalk area, I knew where I wanted to be, resale value wasn't a factor for me. In 22 years I'll be 85, who knows what I'll be capable of then. Right now, there's nowhere else I want to stay.

Disney could decide at some point in the future not to fool with ROFR at all. That may sound crazy, but crazier things have happened. In that case, the market would set the prices for resale without the artificial manipulation of ROFR. Other timeshares have almost no resale value, it would be interesting to see how DVC would fare in that scenario.

I don’t have a problem with the 2042 expirations because so many resorts are expiring at that point that I think DVC will become a fundamentally different product than it is right now, assuming that DVC holds the line on resale restrictions. I’m happy to be able to either bow out or buy back in at that point.

That did in fact happen following the Great Recession, so we do have a data point. DVC ceased almost all ROFR and prices went down. And it makes perfect sense, if direct sales are slow of course the developer would say here, you are buying the resorts in active sales or not at all from us.

It's very possible if not likely we could be facing that situation again in another 1-2 years.

We bought at BCV a couple of years ago with similar thinking. I don't mind staying at other resorts but I would have been disappointed not to be able to stay at BCV when I wanted. I have no idea what's going to happen in the next 20 years, but if we're still going as often then hopefully we'll have saved up enough to buy another contract at that time!
