Hi, we will be visiting Grand Cayman on our up coming cruise. We want to visit seven mile beach . Not sure where we should be dropped off. I have read about Royal Palms and calico jacks. We are looking for less crowds, restrooms/showers etc., food. We are open to suggestions. We are 2 adults 2 children ages 9 and 6. Thank you :beach:

We just came off of the 11/1/13 sailing and we absolutely loved Royal Palms. The beach wasn't crowded. Royal Palms is beautiful and clean.

Another vote for Royal Palms. We rented a cabana and had a fabulous time!

Thank you for the pictures and comments. This helps alot as I am planning to take my 2 year old niece Sunday.

Another vote for Royal Palms. Things to keep in mind - The taxi driver may try to talk you out of going there since it is closer to the port which means less fare for him. Ours kept pushing the public beach further away. He said Royal Palms would be crowded. Ours was the only ship in port that day and it wasn't crowded at all. They have a pool there but it is adults only. We didn't see anyone use it. Have a great cruise.

Don't let the taxi driver drop you off at Surfside. Seems like all the locals recommend that beach. There are a lot of water traffic in the ocean (jet skis, boats, etc) so it's a little tricky to just relax in the water. The distance from the bar to the water is about 10 feet so not a lot of sand. Also, the bar there plays LOUD music. I wished we had gone to Royal Palms or somewhere else.

We loved Surfside because of the music, but you're right, it can be loud.

Mike

We also took the bus there which was cheaper and quicker than cab service.

What type of music? Island type music?

We were there two weeks ago. It might have been my post you read about Calico Jacks. We planned to go to Royal Palms and the photos and the website look really nice. What put us off was the notice at the entrance which said pool is adults only, so we thought it would not be a family friendly place and so continued up to Calico Jacks at Public/Sea Grape Beach.

We had a really nice day and I guess that chairs, food and other rentals were probably cheaper but I would say that Royal Palms looks more upscale. Calico Jacks more authentic perhaps ;)

This place Surfside, now I don't know if that was the one just up the beach from Calico Jacks andjust before Tiki Beach, but if that was it then oh my! it was really loud :rotfl: Also the rentals place up there was more expensive.

The main thing is the water and the sand is lovely along that whole beach and so from that point of view you can't really go wrong. If you want to snorkel then you are better further up the beach i.e. Public/Seagrape and up as the reef is right there.

Enjoy, wish I was back there, was my favourite place even though it rained :beach:

We ended up at Calico Jack's and thought it was pretty decent. The water is so beautiful that nothing else really matters. We rented 4 chairs and an umbrella for 5 people and maybe only needed 2 chairs. We rented SUPs and a raft so we really didn't lounge much. Food was decent (nothing remarkable). Bus driver/taxi (they wait for you at the port) charged us $5 pp each way so not sure if that was a good deal or not but still much cheaper than any excursion when we just wanted to sit on the beach. Had a little trouble getting back (one van left full of people and we were told another was on the way and it took him 15 minutes to get to his bus which was parked and running). He did give us a mini-tour on the way back. Thought about doing the a hotel for a day and am so glad I didn't spend my money on that (about $160).
