Grand Californian

Hello all, we’re back home after spending last night at GCH and a fantastic day at DL! As others have said, the cast members are so thrilled to welcome guests back, and we found the service to be attentive and friendly. We had a few issues with the Grill, which was out of many items (no jelly for toast this morning), and they ended up comp’ing dinner last night after my husband waited an hour for our food. Aside from that, we had a great experience!

Similar to our experience with SWGE opening weekend, we were thrilled to be directed directly to the esplanade when we left the hotel via the DTD security entrance this morning. We saw a parallel line of people stretching from M&F parking lot, but there were barriers set up and they were holding that line. We strolled out of the hotel at 8:15, the gates opened at 8:20, and we were in the park about 5 min later. It was wonderful! Very happy we stayed onsite.

Is the direct to the esplanade in the morning something they do all the time for Grand Californian guests (we're staying at VGC at the end of the month)?

Does anyone have the Park reservations link for GCH guests. I have 2 friends that are thinking about joining me and I want to see if tickets are still available through the hotel? Thank You!

...we caused them to make new signs!!!! I usually go a different direction to go out thru the hotel to DTD, simply because it is easier for WC and ECV. Well, my daughter and I did, and they called her back (didn't call me back) because when we went this direction, it skipped the temp check. (I didn;t think about it. I was wondering where she went!). When we came back from lunch, there were new signs saying no access that direction....

Has anyone heard about them possibly reopening club level? I only ask because I received an email from Disney reservations that lists our room as “Deluxe room with club level access”. My original reservation was for a Premium Pool View.

No, they are just likely moving you up to that floor to open up more rooms in lower categories. They have been doing that in WDW as well. You'll be in the "club level floor" but there won't be a lounge or any service up there.

Okay, thanks! I was so confused since I didn’t think they were planning on opening up club level anytime soon. It would have been nice though, lol.

I have a reservations for next weekend and I'm staying on my DVC points. Is there an online check in for VGC? Where can I make a room request?

I have two different reservations at the Grand Californian (same dates, one with in package with tickets, one room only). I am planning to call and cancel the package, but I notice that the rooms listed on my reservations are slightly different:
  • Package: Woods-Courtyard View - Two Queen Beds and Day Bed
  • Room only: Woods-Courtyard View - Two Queen Beds
We are party of 3 but definitely want the room with the day bed. I thought those were something you request but only assigned at checkin. Does everyone get assigned when reserving?

I'm wondering if when I call if I can convert the package to a room only reservation (we bought our tickets separately) and keep the day bed room. Any experience with this?

Thanks sooo much! I had 2 people added onto reservation and thought they had to start in the other park as us. Now we're altogether thanks to this info that I had no idea of. I even asked different people at Disney if there's a way they could change them since I have a hotel reservation and they obviously are clueless about this bucket since they were no help.

Answering my own question in case it is helpful to anyone else.

The good news: I was able to get someone on the phone right away without having to hold!
The bad news: They could not switch my reservation with the room I wanted to room only and no day bed options were available to switch my existing room only reservation to. Kicking myself for not dealing with the issue right away when availability might have been higher. Our only option would be to look at new dates or hope they can accommodate our request at check in (certainly not guaranteed).

Sorry you weren't able to get that daybed, but I'm pretty sure there are only a very limited number of daybeds at the Grand and they prioritize them for families of 5 and groups with older teens or all adults. I booked a standard room with 2 adults and 2 teens, 16 and 15 and our reservation lists a daybed. I'm glad about that, to be honest. They don't sleep great in the same bed.

If you don't have a daybed, you will have a nice easy chair instead. So, you will have a place to sit that isn't the bed.
