Grand Californian Super Thread

Cannot answer for you, but will mention if you stay in the DVC Villas that wing is not currently (lol) under construction. There are no rooms that are that far in the hotel - and you can even cut across the pool to get to the DVC wing. You can rent the points thru a few different services online and it is typically a lot cheaper than Disney direct. Sadly, availability of those few rooms is low, and cancellation terms are tougher.

Actually, there are a bunch of hotel room in the same section of building as the DVC rooms.

On the map below, they are all the rooms to the left of the DVC rooms.

When I said none of the room are that far -- what I "meant" was even the furthest rooms in the resort are not that long of a walk. Kinda comparing to Animal Kingdom Lodge where the furthest rooms should have their own time zone ;)

I’ll be staying at the GCH for the first time in Jan. Opening time for DL is 8am. What is the rope drop strategy to get out of the hotel into DTD then to the turnstile to be relatively close to the front? Everything I read is related to EE and that won’t be applicable.

Also, is there a place in the hotel to grab a coffee and snack before leaving? Looks like the Craftsman’s grill doesn’t open till 6:45am and not sure if that’s too late.

I was walking through the DTD/DLH security around 0715 Sunday and made it to the DL gates before they starting scanning anyone in. That put me what I would call "relatively close" to the front of the rope. I was heading towards Frontierland but the center rope by the Walt statue had maybe 15 people at it when I walked up.

Of course, I had no wait at that security check. We don't yet know what effect the closing of the Pixar Pier gate will have on the two remaining GCH entrances. I would budget 15-20 minutes minimum for the DTD entrance unless you are at the beginning of the line (they do have a no bags line now, I believe, which has probably sped things up). Getting through security before they open the Harbor Blvd gates at 0700 will put you in a great position.
