Grand Californian Super Thread

I posted this in the DLH super thread but haven’t gotten a response yet
(I think the GCH thread is more active)

Thinking someone here might know

‘Can anyone tell me anything about the pool cabanas.
I’ve rented a cabana at the GCH but not the Disneyland hotel.
Wondering what the most current 1/2 day and full day prices are
Also curious about the pods, the round lily pad like seats with umbrellas: how much those are and also while they say they are for a max of 2 people, is it strictly enforced? I ask because we are staying at the GCH in July but maybe at our pool/rest day to be at the DLH. It would be myself, my husband and daughter but not all 3 of us would need the pod, like we would rotate likely
But would they require all 3 of us to have a dedicated space?‘
Sorry. I saw your post on the DLH and was hoping someone more knowledgeable would answer you. I may be incorrect but I thought cabana rentals are for registered hotel guests. So I don’t think you can rent a cabana at DLH if you are staying at the GCH. Someone please correct me if I am wrong though. I just thought this falls under the “no pool hopping” rule.

I know for sure that any guest staying at any Disney hotel can rent a cabana at another Disney hotel
We had the option to rent a cabana at the DLH last October when we stayed at the GCH, but we opted for the GCH

Now I’m not sure if pod rentals count though..

We really enjoyed it yesterday for our midday break. We went back into the park once to ride Goofy’s sky school and then back again later. Finally, we used it to leave the park - one group after the first world of color show and one group after closing down the park. Not crowded at all - which is certainly not true of this week’s spring break crowds or even the lobby. I don’t have anything to compare it to, and I was certainly disappointed that the other entrance was closed, but we liked the paradise gardens entrance for our California adventure day.
thanks for the feedback, i always loved that entrance since its usually less traffic going in but was curious if with the crowds it was backed up more, were going in 10 days staying at vgc cant wait!!

Do we know how long the construction is expected to last? We are there in July and just trying to figure out what to expect.

It should all be completed sometime in 2026. Remember, they are not just doing the restaurants, they're doing it ALL- hotel rooms, DVC rooms and building a second club level on top of the lobby. Unfortunately it's too soon to know what sort of impact you're facing in July.

Speaking of construction- has the Lobby kicked off yet or hearing any rumors as to when that new club level part kicks off?

Lobby looked fine on Sunday. The restrooms that are closest to the outside fireplace are closed. Everyone needs to use the restroom next to Trillium.

What are people’s thoughts on checking in through the app? Do you use that feature or just checkin at the reception desk once you get to the hotel.

We did early check in through the app last trip but didn’t get our room assigned to us until about 5:00 PM so not sure if there is a benefit to using the app.

We checked in through the app this morning and dropped our bags off. Got the text the room was ready and used the app to get into the room. Quick and easy

Same! We have done it both ways. I have never had an issue with online check in. The only time I would recommend checking at the desk is if you have a specific request. Like a king bed or location. Because it’s easier to ask at check in and confirm prior to going to your room. We don’t have requests much anymore so online works great for us.

I put in a room request ahead of time on the phone (like "close to elevators"), and I do in-person check-in. I like to see where they're planning to put me so if it's not what I requested, I can try and change it. I almost always get to the resort early in the morning because I fly in and choose an early flight time.

*edited to add that I don't care about the view, just location within the hotel.
