Grand Californian and construction

Hello all - We are planning a trip to DL in January and were wondering how the construction for DVC is affecting the views from this hotel. Would a theme park view room be worth it or would we be looking at a bunch of contruction

We went in June with a theme park view and though we could see the construction from our room, but it didn't impede the view of the park.

If you are looking at it then yes...you will see the construction. But I dont think it will be high enough to block your view of the park. It is your choice though, personally I wouldn't think it would affect it too much. Esp from concierge level.

Does anyone know which "wing" or whatnot to request for the best Standard room? This will be our first GC visit.

I would love to know that as well even though I've stayed there 4 times we always end up looking out the front over the entrance is that the only standard view?

The construction is off to the front right side of the hotel - blocking the view of Mullholland Madness from the front entrance. We had a room above and just to the right of the entrance two weeks ago and we didn't really have any issues. You don't really look that direction much, anyway. Most of the rooms sprawl farther away from the construction area.

Other standard views are in the courtyard that the monorail passes through. You wouldn't even be able to tell there was construction from those rooms - so peaceful!

Katherine, how have those rooms been? This will be our first time staying at GCH.

We were there last month and I didn't want to look at the construction so we asked for a view of grizzly peak which we got (we had booked a theme park view room). We had a great view of the ToT, Grizzly River Runs final drop, Grizzly Peak and the monorail going past.

If you have a standard view booked I would ask for a courtyard view as they looked nice and peaceful.

The construction is coming on quite well now and the building is several floors high.
