Gran Destino Tower things to do suggestions for a one-night & two-day stay recommendations.

I made a mistake making room reservations when I was going to transfer to Pop Century Resort to BWV. I left out one day. I didn't realize my mistake until 180-days out when I started making my dining reservations.

Big mistake on my part.

Especially since I needed a standard roll-in shower room.

But I lucked out a few days ago and found one night at the Coronado Springs Resort's Gran Destino Tower with a standard roll-in shower.

I have searched Touring Plans and other photos for room photos for this particular room, but I guess the resort is so new that not many folks have taken photos of this particular type of room.

I did find one guest on Touring Plans website that posted one photo of the view outside their window, but not inside like the roll-in shower bathroom setup and if the beds were lower, etc.

But that's okay.

I plan on relaxing that day and night between changing resorts and exploring the Gran Destino Tower.

I have some ideas of just exploring rolling around in my wheelchair and relaxing. Like enjoying the Three Bridges Bar & Grill on the lake.

Does anyone have any suggestions from their experiences of what they liked to do at the Gran Destino Tower?

Aside from the equally new lounges and restaurants, and the lobby declr, I would expect that the Coronado Springs thread would be a wealth of information.

Hi, kaytieeldr. I'll post over there.

I didn't find anything about the first page of the Coronado Springs thread about the Gran Destino Tower.

I guess because the tower is so new.

I did see some folks posting at the end of the thread interspersed with The Coronado Resort. It has 538 pages at https://www.disboards.com/threads/disneys-coronado-springs-resort-information-questions.3270962/

I did see this thread, but it only had 12 posts so far at https://www.disboards.com/threads/gran-destino-tower.3774675/

Maybe someone will start a new thread dedicated to Gran Destino Tower.

I had 2 stays there recently.

For the dh and I trip we walked the whole grounds . Really each section is so different it’s pretty relaxing to see.

There are quiet pools besides the dig site.

The lobby at GD tower is 2 levels. It’s so unique! Lots of people sat around with either an adult beverage or coffee.

Then with dd and her bf last week we didn’t spend as much time but did stroll a bit.

On way back to resort one day we realize WE WERE HUNGRY NOW! We were staying CL but they don’t have much out midday. There is room service but breakfast and dinner/not lunch.

So I pulled out the app and checked. Rix sports bar had a 12;45 time and we were at Akl bus stop at 12p. We took it.

We got off the 1st stop and walked to El Centro. In line I heard them tell a mom they had to wait an hour. So,it really helps to just book it !

All 3 of us loved our food. They had lots of things to choose from too. One of the best lunches I’ve had at Disney!

It may be obvious but just being outside at sunset to after it’s dark when it’s all lit up is a must do!

Hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Oh I didn’t need to go to the restaurant/bar on 16th floor because we had cl lounge. However that would be fun to try. Even if not just dessert n coffee.

Because the resort -specific threads were started by members and not moderators, I wouldn't necessarily expect the initial posts to be maintained or updated. Try using the Search feature in that thread.

I wouldn't expect that. Gran Destino is part of Coronado.

I suggest getting a reservation for Toledo, the restaurant on the top floor. Great views for fireworks at 2 parks and awesome food. We had the best octopus with lentils and DD loved the mussels tapas dish. The 3 Bridges Bar and Grill is also great for drinks and food. We did not care for the quick service, Rix, and the Maya food.

We will be staying there next May. If you just google Gran Destino Tower you will find soooo many images of the insides of the rooms, which are gorgeous!

I can say for certain we are looking forward to enjoying a glass of wine at Three Bridges. The place looks amazing and I think it will feel so good to sit along the water and relax! Especially at sunset.

And then of course, enjoying the view from the Dahlia Lounge in the Tower - it looks phenomenal.

Thank you everyone for your replies!

Thank you, trishadono. I am excited to roll around the resort to see everything new. I haven't been to the Coronado Resort in over a decade. I will look for reservations for that day. The lobby of the tower looks really fascinating to me. My favorite time in December at WDW is the evenings.

Thank you, trishadono. I will definitely check that out.

Thank you, P'colaBeachBum. That sounds like a great idea.

Thank you, Farro. I've been Googling a lot lately, but I usually don't find photos of the Handicap room with roll-in showers and lower beds, etc. Even on the WDW website for that type of room they usually put photos of a standard shower or tub and raised beds.

I plan on taking a lot of photos when I am there.

I will definitely check out the Dahlia Lounge in the Tower.

I was assigned a deluxe suite with tub vs stand up shower. I should have taken a pic . It’s not what you looking for but could help someone.

I think Disney does a good job overall so hopefully you’ll get a room you need.

Thanks. I saw the stand-up, walk-in shower that you had on the WDW site for a standard roll-in shower room. That happens a few times. I think the person adding WDW photos thinks that the walk-in showers look the same because of inexperience with handicapped needs.

above, but is not a roll-in shower, but a walk-in shower with a ledge at the bottom. A roll-in shower has a hollow rubber ledge for a wheelchair to roll over, but not allow water to leak out. There is also not a bench near the shower controls.

When available online, Disney has always been very helpful, too.

They can't just add what they don't have.

I was lucky enough to get the find the defined "Standard View. Wheelchair accessible with roll-in shower - 2 queen beds."

There photo did show hand rails around the toilet, but this is also available in ADA rooms with tubs with handrails.

The beds are too high for ADA roll-in shower room, but this was also listed in the same list of photos. Either they didn't have a photo with lower beds or the person posting the photo thought the photo was the same as an ADA bed.

I really like the large window and views from the tower. This photo looks correct as far as the lower bed height is concerned.

I usually make reservations over a year in advance now because of how many guests requests the same type of room and just the overall lack of rooms found when I go in December..

I already have my room reservation for 12/2020.

If available, they reserve that type of room for a guest when chosen under their criteria. I have never had that luck requesting a Wheelchair accessible with a roll-in shower room with a fax or request. Those rooms in most resorts are taken fairly early.

I usually check the Wheelchair Accessible room when searching for a room and they only show those type rooms.

That's why I thought I was lucky.

The next day there was no availability for my date except for $2,000.00 room at the Grand Floridian.

It's amazing to me how many rooms are unavailable this year.
