OK, when I read some things on here (and elsewhere), they just drive me up the wall. I understand typos, but when you see the same incorrect usage 6 times in one post, that's not a typo.

I don't want to call out a specific poster, because there's no way to do that and have it taken as "constructive criticism" (and I'm not the best at grammar).

My pet peeves...
"your" vs. "you're"
"your"... possessive... "What are you watching on YOUR TV?"
"you're"... you are... "Smile, you're going to Disney World!"

"lose", "loose"
"Lose"... You can't find something... "Did you lose your keys?"
"Loose"... Not tight... "Your tie looks loose."

OK, rant over. Those of you who want to join on, spit out your grammar pet peeves.

Incorrect usage of the apostrophe or lack thereof.

For example:

Tims kid is so spoiled.

As opposed to:
Tim's kid is so spoiled.

Its and It's and the many ways they are abused drive me completely bonkers, too. (Not to mention "to and too" )

I'm an editor. I practice a lot of restraint when on the Internet lol. It makes my skin crawl when I hear "I should have went" instead of
"I should have GONE."

"Could care less".

Unless you are trying to say that you actually care, what you mean is that you "Couldn't care less".

Like you, I understand that people make mistakes. We all do. Typing fast, not proof reading, tons of reasons for it. What drives me crazy though are the people who type as if they are illiterate. Native born English speakers, not people from other countries that are still learning the language.

They make it so their posts are impossible to decipher and understand. What's the point? It's like arguing with a 3rd grader.

There - I went there once.
Their - That is their cat.
They're -They're going to the movies.

Those who abbreviate everything as though they have limited space or are texting irritate me as well. "Tx 4 the advic U gav 2 me 4 MK @ wrk!"

Double negatives, misspellings, wrong word usage.

It's the world of the internet.

Everyone makes excuses for it but it's made me think that word syntax has gone to heck in a handbasket with the World Book encyclopedia! :lmao:

All we can do is change our reaction to it, there's nothing we can do to change it.

At least it's not as bad as some of the teenaged nightmares on Facebook...:scared: Complete diatribes of 50 words or more... with not ONE correctly spelled or used word. It makes my hair stand up in the back of my head! I've UNfriended people like that :lmao:

Actually, there is one issue that means I either skip the post or block the poster entirely.

Elipses are not commas! I will not struggle through a post....written like this. It is possible....that the poster.....has something interesting....or useful....to say, but it is much too....hard for me to read. So I don't.

Principal, as in the person who runs the school, spelled principle is the one I see all the time.

There, their, and they're bug me, too!

I do this - a LOT! Guilty as charged.

My DD has two friends on FB that are dating and feel the need to let everyone know how wonderful they are on a daily basis.

They love to write:

Your the greatest!
No, your the greatest.
No way, your the greatest.

It drives my DD absolutely nuts. She says she wants to write, "I can't put my finger on it but I think "your" both perfect for each other."

To top it off, both teens have English teachers for mothers. Both moms are on their FB pages. You would think they would correct them in private but this has been going on for months and nothing has changed.

I know when my DD has read their posts because she yells YOU'RE! IS IT REALLY THAT COMPLICATED? :lmao:

Totally agree with everything so far. I would like to add dinning. There is only one "n" in the word dining. Also, apostrophes indicate possession. They do not make a word plural.

If I continually see typos and mistakes in people's posts, I just don't read them anymore. Posting like you are illiterate or texting are two of my largest pet peeves when it comes to message boards. So I just don't read their posts.

That is how I choose to react. :)

LOL.....Me too....I would have quoted the other poster...but they wouldn't be reading this anyway! :rotfl2:

I really do not care about the errors, as long as the meaning is still there. I understand people type fast and do not proof read on a forum. I just don't like when there aren't enough spaces.

I actually prefer the .... it makes it much easier for me to read quickly!

Oh geeze ~ now I'm wondering if the "people's" in my post is wrong!! :lmao:Oh well if it is, you don't have to read it. :rotfl2:

I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but I fear this thread won't make it to page three before somebody shouts out in defense of dyslexic posters, learning disabled posters, otherwise disabled posters... as well as posters who have trouble expressing themselves and how it's (oops, almost missed the apostrophe there ;)) more important that they get their ideas out than that they spell correctly...

That's how these threads usually turn. It stinks, because really the primary problem is posters who just don't care, or who claim this is an informal setting.

For example: "Your parents honeymooned* at Walt Disney World. You're saying they're going back there to celebrate their 25th anniversary, too? How exciting!"

Did I hit all the key words? ;)

*sorry, I know it's not a verb

Agreed. Or even worse, "I should of went." That drives me up a wall!

Another one of my pet peeves is when people don't know the difference between advice and advise.

I had to come back and add this. I told DD that I posted about her FB friends and she said I needed to add this one that was just posted by another friend:

My Etsy Shop is have it's first sale!! All t-shirts our $10.

I think my DD's head just exploded. :lmao:
