graduation-what is the goint rate?

So I have one for you - I have four second cousins with their party together the same day. I am lucky if I see them once a year if at all. How much would you give each?

Do what you can afford, 1 year we had 8 kids at church all graduating and they had a combined party for church family then separate for individual families. I think it was 2006, I did checks for $20.06 for each of them.

Hmmm - we have two graduates to send cards too - I was sending them $20 each - now I feel cheap!

Dont feel cheap! DD graduated and we had her party this past weekend, we also have alot of grads to buy for as we know alot of her friends very well. DD got anywhere from 5$ in a card and up. We are very happy for EVERY gift. Everyone should give what they can afford. We are not giving as much as we do sometimes due to the amount of kids we want to buy for this year.

This year, I have one very close friend's child and a second cousin. Both are having parties. Gave the close friend's child who I've seen 7 or 8 times a year since birth $150 and the second cousin who I see once a year $100.

My younger cousin just graduated and we are really close. I got her a $30 Glass Baron piece, an $8 Spiritual Guidance for Young Women book, a $2 card, 4 movie theatre vouchers that I paid $7 a piece for, various $5 and $10 GCs to Walmart, Sunoco, Royal Farms, Wawa, McDonalds, Subway, B & N, Amazon, Old Navy/Gap, BK, Wendy's, Pizza Hut, Target, KMart, NY and Co., a $50 GC to the college she will be attending, and a $50 Visa GC. I will be putting them in a nice Vera Bradley Wallet. So all in all I will have spent about $325 on her. I have been picking up the GCs here and there so it's not a large chunck all at once. Give what you feel comfortable giving.

What a neat idea, Thanks!

My brother graduated just yesterday and uncles and aunts gave on average a $100. Distant family gave about $30 on average and friends of the family gave on average $25! I know with him all the money is going towards dorm expenses

Another question- if you get an invite to a party, but don't go, do you still send them something? We got several this year from acquaintences whose kids I don't even recognize!

What is the going rate for a graduation gift of money. We have 2- one for
a family member (neice) and one for a friend of the family. In Ohio.

We are in Ohio as well. Our DS just graduated HS last year. The majority of his gifts averaged $20.00 (well a lot were $20.09... which took me a second to realize that was for the year 2009, lol)! :rotfl:

He did have a couple of aunts that gave $50.00, a set of grandparents giving $100.00, and two older family friends that gave $50.00 but everyone else was $10.00 or $20.00. Most close relatives (his aunts/uncles) gave $20.00!

I had a nephew graduate in 2009 from a nearby county and a nephew that graduated this year as well, in talking with my sister and sister-in-law I found that for their boys $20.00 was the norm as well!

Two years ago my oldest niece graduated, and her parents gave her a huge party complete with AI wannabe singer, and we gave her $300.

This year my middle niece should be graduating (I only have 3 nieces, so I don't mind doing more for them). She has not taken care of her responsibilities, and has only received a certificate of completion. Her parents gave her $75 and a $25 book. The grandparents gave her $50 (they gave the oldest $250), and her other aunt similarly reduced her gift. We haven't sent her anything yet, I just don't know what to do...we love her as we love the oldest and wouldn't want her to think we didn't, but she did not do what she needed, and it seems silly to give her money she will not be using for college or a career -- she currently spends her days couchsurfing...I thought about just giving her $50, the same amount we give for birthdays...
