Help I need ideas on where to have a graduation party!!!

My daughter is graduating High School in May. I want to have a party for her. We had it all set to have a private party at the pool on base. Just found out that the pool is no longer doing private parties. They said we could have it during public swim hours. But we were going to hire a DJ and have food and inviting 100 people

Don't really want it at my house because we don't have a very big back yard and with the weather so unpredictable not sure what I would do with everyone if we could not be outside.

Don't really want to have it at a park because of weather issues and it would cost to much to rent tables tents etc......

I would appreciate any ideas!!!

Graduating high school?

When I graduated high school, a friend of ours threw an overnight party. They rented a cabin on a lake (like a state/national park) and stocked it with goodies, then they stayed at a cabin down the road and let us have our fun.

Sounds permissive, but we were all good! :)

Yes, High School. Thanks for the idea! Mannasn. We live in Colorado there are lots of cabins in the mountains but we live about an hour away. Wonder if people would go that far :confused3

Does she have any other close friends that are graduating at the same time? Maybe you adn some of the other parents could go together and do something really cool. Maybe rent out a hall and bring in all sorts of activities and stuff. Party rental places have lots of cool things to do. Plus, the more the merrier and it might help cut down on the costs to have a couple of other parents splitting. If she is inviting a lot of friends, it might be half the same people anyway, then you would just have to worry about family.

The one we went to was about 30 miles away - but didn't seem such a big deal since we were spending the night, after all. Plus we car-pooled. :)

Hope she has a great party! I'll be throwing a big one (hopefully) this May too! ;)

have you started making plans for your graduation party? What are you doing?

Puffkin- She does have a few close friends but as far as I know they are not planning on having a party just going to them.

I am so disappointed about the pool. Thought it was the perfect place. :furious:

I don't have any suggestions, but I wanted to wish you luck. Our son is graduating from high school also, but I'm thinking about doing something at home for family and family friends. :sunny:

Thank you Daemom! Good luck to you too. Is he going to college?

We're planning a graduation party for my dh from grad school. I know you ruled out a park, but there might be a park with a covered pavilion and picnic tables so, you don't have to rent additional equipment. We just reserved one for our celebration in May and it was $50 from our county park system. It is complete with a huge grill, serving station, and sink area...

If you are a member of a church gym, that might be an option. Many Ys also rent their facilities with gym and/or pool and usually have a party room.

Is there something like a water park near by? Maybe that would work for you. Good luck, I know I'll be facing the same thing in a few years. My DD is in the 8th grade and my house is already the designated "party" (as in sleepovers, etc,) house.

Penny- We don't have a water park where I live but there is one in Denver about 70 miles north of me. Love the idea though!

I know you aren't sure about having at a park, but have you checked with MWR to see if there might be a picnic area on base? Some have really nice ones with bathrooms and pavillions. At least then, if the weather was crummy you would be protected. Or like another poster suggested, what about a church hall? We regularly have parties in ours, and some will rent them out even if you are not a member. It might be worth a few phone calls to ask.

Do you have a local Elks Club or American Legion? They often will rent their hall space for fairly reasonable prices - as long as it doesn't conflict with Bingo or Poker nights.

Any ski areas around you with lodges?

Also, sometimes housing developments with their own pools and rec halls rent out the space for parties. I know where my dad used to live in NC, they had birthday parties, baby showers, etc in their clubhouse.

How many people actually swim during public hours? If the base would allow it and seeing you don't have many options - I'd just do it during public hours, dj and all. Ask the PTB if you can have a special section reserved for your guests and food. It will be alot of fun.
